NEWS DIGEST – The management of Obafemi Awolowo
University has reacted to the recent shut down of her
activities by the Inland Revenue Service office of Osun state
over alleged tax evasion totaling about N1.8billion since
2015.
Speaking exclusively to The News Digest, the Public
Relations officer of the institution,Olarewaju Abiodun said
the University is working all round to ensure that the
situation is contained.
“We are working all round to resolve issues and we are
working round the clock as an administration”.
He said the crisis was caused by previous administrations
and expressed trust that the Governor of Osun state Rauf
Aregbesola who he described as a lover of Education will not
do anything to jeopardize the University system “Previous
administration caused the debt, I am so sure that the Osun
state Governor who is an Education lover will not do
anything to hurt is love for Education and he would instruct
that all issues be resolved,we are also doing that
administratively”.
The University Spokesman also said the crisis should not
affect Students” Students should not be affected as we have
put measures in place to ensure that those on ground go
about their normal activities without restraint”.
Obafemi Awolowo University resumed on April 29 for a new
session.
