Healthy gums play a major role not only for the dental health, but for the overall health also. Gum disease causes irritation, redness, and inflammation of the gums, which is very painful for individuals experiencing it. So it is important to take care of the gums and teeth regularly.
The home remedies for gum disease includes brushing and flossing of the teeth regularly, massaging of the gums, using an antimicrobial mouth wash, regular oral hygiene, quit smoking, and using clove, mint, and fruit juices.

TYPES OF GUM DISEASES:
The types of gum diseases can be divided into two types, namely gingivitis and periodontitis. And if left untreated for a long time, may cause major damage to the bones and soft tissues that support the teeth. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease where the gums become swollen, red, and may bleed easily. Generally, gingivitis makes its way into the least orally hygiene mouths. The untreated gingivitis leads to periodontitis. The causes of most gum diseases is the presence of bacterial plaque . The plaque is a sticky and colorless film that easily attaches itself to the teeth.

THE CAUSES:

Wrong brushing techniques: Many people sometimes over do the brushing of their teeth in the quest to keep their teeth healthy. The overly vigorous brushing of the teeth might actually cause damage to the gums, since they are very soft and sensitive. Many people who use the back and forth styles of brushing, which can irritate and damage the gums, causes a recession in the gum line, as well as increasing the frequency of bleeding gums.

Chemotherapy: The swollen and painful bleeding gums could be an unpleasant side effect of chemotherapy. People who are undergoing chemotherapy may suffer from stomatitis which gives rise to painful sores and ulcers in the mouth and on the gums.

Smoking and tobacco: A study in the Swedish army revealed that soldiers who smoked were more susceptible to oral diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis than those who did not. Using cigarette and tobacco products is extremely bad for the gums.

Poor oral hygiene: When the brushing and flossing of the teeth is not done regularly, then the gum disease can develop therein.

THE REMEDIES:

The use of mouth wash: The use of anti-microbial mouth wash is very beneficial in preventing and reducing gingivitis and plaque. But there must be a recommendation from the dentist first before choosing a specific mouthwash.

Massaging of the gums: Massaging the gums after brushing will help to increase blood circulation. An increased amount of circulation will strengthen the gums and prevent them from bleeding.

Cleaning the tongue: Cleaning the tongue is as important as brushing the teeth. The proper scraping on the surface of the tongue is recommended after every meal. This will remove the excess bacteria and prevent them from forming plaque on the teeth.

Flossing: Flossing the teeth regularly may help in reducing gingivitis. By simpling sliding the floss up and down between the teeth, it can reach those places that are difficult for a brush to reach, which therefore remove the plaque.

Brushing of the teeth: It is suggested that the brushing of the teeth should be done twice daily. And it is more beneficial when there is fluoride content present in the toothpaste that is use. The suggested brushing time of the teeth should be from 30 to 60 seconds. And should ensure the proper brushing of the gum line as well, since most of the plaque that can cause infections is present therein.

Fruit juices: The fruits and fruit juices are good for keeping the human body healthy. The consumption of fruit juices such as pineapples, oranges, and grapes has a positive impact on reducing plaque.

Mint: Due to its germicidal properties, mint stops harmful bacteria from growing inside the mouth, and also helps to keep the teeth and tongue clean. Mint is also used in almost all the mouth fresheners.

Cloves: Cloves are excellent for gum health. Using cloves is an age-old and easy home remedy for any kind of dental problems. Clove oil is being analgesic and have antiseptic properties, which makes it highly effective in both relieving the pain caused by the gum disease and healing the infection at the same time.
