WE NEED OUR OWN 'THIS IS NIGERIA' MUSIC VIDEO.

DISCLAIMER: You need to watch "this is America" music video by Childish Gambino to understand this article better.

I have always been a fan of Childish Gambino / Donald Glover. He is a musician, songwriter, actor and movie director who tries to pass across messages in any way he can. And he really outdid himself in his latest music video.

It is currently trending at number 1 on Youtube, not because of Gambino's awesome dancing skills. Or because of his funny facial expressions.

It is number one because of the hidden messages he sends about the past, present and probably future situations of his country, USA.

The messages include:

Gambino wearing confederate trousers while displaying dance moves similar to Jim Crow's to indicate the oppression of black people in the past.
.
.
Gambino shooting people randomly to show the weakness of anti-gun laws in America during Trump's era.
.
.
Students using smartphones like zombies, oblivious of the chaos around them.
.
.
Even the chilly black hooded guy riding a white horse in the background symbolizes the biblical figure of Death and the dire future of American citizens if proper measures are not taken.
.
.
.
.
I begin to wonder if Nigerians will ever get their own video with scenes like:

Uniform students lying on the ground with empty cough syrup drug bottles and red plastic party cups.
.
.
Two sections of youths sitting on different tables, engrossed with their laptops. The left section has youths wearing black polos with gold chains around their necks. The right section has youths wearing white polos. Both groups have the inscriptions 'lazy Nigerian youths' written on their shirts.
.
.
A Fulani boy running around men and women in suits who are having a broad meeting. The boy is wearing glasses, oversized Babariga and busy playing with a paper plane in his hands.
.
.
Elderly men with whistles in their mouths, slowly dragging Ghana-must-go bags to dark corners.
.
.
The list is endless.

Childish Gambino has shown us that music videos can do more than advertise new dance moves, display drug abuse or act as comic relief.

Yes, music videos can still show relevance in this present age.

If Nigerian music stars can do such a video, maybe we will rant less about a semi-nude caveman playing piano under Lagos bridge.

Gosh, that vid is replete with deep meaning. It's number 2 on Youtube Nigeria.

For me, it speaks about gun violence, music as well as racial bias.
