You don't do it yourself. Take it to a radiator guy to do it for you. I don't think our equipment for that came in yet.

It depends on the engine and what's wrong with it. Different engines have different labor hours to dismantle, then we find which part is bad and replace. Payment for teardown is applied to rebuild or replacement once we determine which is needed. Yes on diesel but only small ones right now.

A lot of things could cause this. Start with checking your engine oil (though if your mechanic is any good I'm assuming he did this already).

Each time you do one of the next things (in order), clear the code and see if it comes back. Worst case scenario is a new ECM so check these other things first:

Timing, oil control valve, vvt assembly.
Blinking check engine light suggests bad coil or misfire. I really can't diagnose your car and can only make suggestions sight unseen but get a good mechanic to check the above. No, it does not sound like you need a new engine.
