Akara ( beancakes ) is one of the most popular dishes that feature in most breakfasts in Nigeria . It is also seen as a reliable and nourishing street snack as sellers are found frying them at roadsides at various hours of the day . What is so special about akara is the fact that it is affordable to buy and to make.
We will be giving you simple steps on how to make akara below.

Ingredients
1 cup peeled beans
2 habanero peppers also known as chilli pepper, chopped
¼ cup water
Salt , to taste
½ medium onion , chopped
Vegetable oil , for frying

Method
1 . Blend the beans with ¼ cup water into a smooth paste .
2 . Pour the blended beans into a bowl and add chopped pepper and onions .
3 . Mix for five minutes with a whisk or mixer to allow air into the paste .
4 . Add salt just before frying the akara balls .
5 . Pour some oil , about two inches deep, into a deep pan on medium heat.
6 . When the oil is hot , scoop a cooking spoon of batter into the oil . Do not spread out the paste in the oil . Fry on each side until golden brown.
7 . Lift the akara balls with a slotted spoon , out of the pan of oil into a sieve.
8 . Repeat the process until everything is fried .
9 . Serve with bread , garri , ogi ( pap) , pepper sauce or fried yam .
Note: The shape of the akara can be affected by the thickness of the paste and how you fry it. The process of making akara may seem like rocket science but, with practice, you will get better.
