Dear Oba, as much as we appreciate your good gesture towards ethnic integration and cultural maturity, we think Nigeria is not ripe for such.

We therefore appeal to you to keep your identity to your people and stop mixing Igbos with your cultural values.

It won't be long now, you will start hearing stories of Igbos wanting to usurp Iwo kingship and the usual hate will start, Igbos has been victimised, beaten and lost goods and properties before in your region for doing nothing.

We love you but please continue wearing your local traditional attires, even if you like to dress like Emirs, it does not concern Igbos.

But you were one of those mocking him when he used the turban earlier and declared it was the usurpation of Yorubaland by Fulani, hence your current guilty conscience that inspired your comment now.

Everything you stated now as your fears, was the bigotry you spewed when he used the turban.

So why are you now afraid of stories of the same kind you authored earlier?

A first class Yoruba traditional ruler in Osun State, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has shown that he's truly a Nigerian after rocking attire worn by Igbo rulers in order to promote unity in the country. The monarch sparked controversy some months ago after dropping his traditional dresses and adopted full regalia of an Hausa emir.

The traditional ruler said Iwo was the home of Islamic scholars and that he could be regarded as an emir.

The Oluwo said he wore the Igwe dress to demonstrate his unrepentant insistence on oneness of Nigeria as a father to the nation as he urged other Obas need to adopt the system to promote unity.

He was quoted as saying the below statements at the event;

I'm wearing Igwe dress to demonstrate my unrepentant insistence on oneness of Nigeria as a father to the nation. Nigerians should integrate through occasional multi ethnic dresses. Other Obas need to adopt the system to promote unity.

"The adopted state of origin is a threat to our unity. Nigerians should be Nigerians in Nigeria. The certificate is divisive. As a Nigerian, you should be able to contest for elective positions anywhere in Nigeria. Ethnicity didn't permit this. Traditional rulers have role to play. I'm leading this and will continue to"

“Palace is a rally point and general place for every Nigerian. It jumps political, religious, ethnic and economic barrier. Everyone, irrespective of your location should be able to approach any palace and make your request. Palace belongs to Nigerians not certain ethnic class”

“Unlike Mosque and Church where Muslims and Christians have respective exclusive access to, palace should accommodate everyone whether you are Muslim or Christian, Yoruba, Hausa.

The Oluwo is not new to controversy and once admitted that people see him that way “because I challenge the status quo”.

What I still don't understand is why the British colonists didn't abolish traditional rulership.

What's the use of traditional rulers when you have the President, the Senators, the Governors, the local government chairmen, the counselors etc.

Our ethic traditions are the reason why Africa is backward. It supports superstitious beliefs. It knows nothing about scientific researchs that can improve human standard of living. It divides us as a people and promotes ethnic competition as against national development

IT SHOULD BE ABOLISHED

I see this as uniting Nigerians but in this regard our tradition and kingship is becoming valueless.

Lol, you and I know that this is a poor attempt at damage control. When this man declared himself an emir, he stated reasons which include that Yoruba monarchs lack wisdom and coherency. Now he has changed the plot to one Nigeria. lol the joke is on you.

Nothing is wrong with the man but everything is wrong with the kingmakers . Just because someone is living abroad and can afford some freebies is enough to become a king . Not all those who are born into a royal family are entitle to become King. This present Oluwo is nothing but a royal rascal unfit for the royal etiquette expected of the throne .
I was discussing with some guys who are very close to him abroad and you can imagine the kind of character that was imported as a royal custodian of culture .
He is at war with everyone even the very peace loving and gentle Ooni of ife, he once had to be caution at one time for rudeness by the Alaafin. So bad
