A mother, Rukkaya Warda who was arraigned before a Shuwa magistrate’s court in Madagali, Adamawa State through the intervention of community members, has been remanded in prison custody for burning the hand of her daughter, Godiya, over missing N170.

The third degree burn the five-year-old girl sustained, was reported to the Community Response Network in the area led by the District Head of Duhu, Mohammed Sanusi, by neighbours. The mother who confessed to setting the daughter’s hand on fire over her missing N170 which was later found with the girl, was handed over to officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps. She was then handed over to the police, who arraigned her before Shuwa magistrate’s court.

The mother who is now in the custody of Adamawa State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as confirmed by Godiya, pending the next hearing.

Few days ago, a 30-year-old woman identified as Ayo Sheriff, who was remanded in Kirikiri prison for using hot pressing iron to torture her daughter was granted bail in the sum of N200,000. The Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, granted the bail to Sheriff with two sureties in like sum. Sule-Hamzat said the sureties must be gainfully employed and one of them must be a relative.

Also, an order that a psychiatric test be conducted on the defendant was also issued and that the result must be presented before the court on the next adjourned date of June 21.

It would be recalled that Sheriff was docked before an Ikeja Magistrates Court for allegedly burning her 16-year-old daughter, Aishat Sheriff with electric iron. The victim had suffered from burns inflicted on her by her mother who reportedly used the equipment to burn her upper and lower right limbs. The suspect is now facing charges of alleged abuse of the secondary school student, who is also a part time student nurse in auxiliary capacity.
