More than Seven persons, including a Tiler were allegedly shot death in a renewed cult clash in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

The incident occurred both in Calabar South local government area and Calabar Municipal local government area of the State.

The clash, CALABAR REPORTERS gathered was between two rivalry cult groups; Vikings and Axe. The incident occurred on Sunday and early and evening part of Monday, respectively.

Further findings revealed that the mayhem occurred when a gang leader, named Agbani was gruesomely murder at Ediba Qua, by Marian Market on Sunday. He was butchered by the neck by the rivalry cult.

An eyewitness who gave his name as George Antai lamented the clash saying that three suspected cultists were killed in Ekondo Street, Mayne Avenue and Wilkie street in Calabar South. “The incident at Calabar South occurred on Sunday while reprisal took place on early hours of Monday. He said the incident took the residents unaware".

Another witness, Ekpenyong Bassey said, "We were here this morning when a group of guys started chasing Emma (one of the victims) from up Ediba and they later caught him around Ediba by Okon Inok where they mercilessly murdered the guy.

"Emma was even a tiler and he does a great job, I wonder why he went and put his hands in such dirty act, following those that don't have anything to offer. Just imagine how he's wasted his life", Bassey said.

Further investigations revealed that the Police arrived Ediba, the crime scene area and also around Marian Market chasing some culprits which left the market in disarray.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo said, "Actually the clash between the two rivalry cult groups occurred and Police are on top of the situation. But only one person was recorded dead".
