People are more concerned over Anichebe, kanu et al, while we all share the same sentiments, our defence should be the main course of concern, If Yobo,

Taiwo
and Shittu will be the preferred first choice in defense, especially against the argies and Korea then that will signal the beginning of the end, you heard it

here first.

Its only anichebe exclusion that baffles me. The other players excluded are have no place in the squad. If were lagerback i would have dropped ayila for anichebe cos we already have mikel, etuhu, kaita and even lukman playing same position.

Maybe he left him cos of mikel's fitness form.
Re: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by yemiprof(m): 4:26pm On May 31, 2010
ds ur news does not correlate with what i heared on brila fm. cos it was confirmed dat ik uche, anichebe, peter utaka have been dropped. so pls revisit ur news. its false.

Why do we need to take 7 strikers to the world cup?
Big countries like Spain, Brazil, Italy, Argentina, etc don't take more than 5 strikers. . . .why do we need 7?
Something is definitely wrong with Nigeria. . . . . .It's either we lack quality in the defence and midfield or someone is not doing his job properly.
Re: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by FitzP: 4:35pm On May 31, 2010
Strikers Ike Uche and Victor Anichebe were the most notable names to miss out on Nigeria's final 23-man squad for the World Cup finals.

Nigeria boss Lars Lagerback dropped seven players in his final cut with Peter Utaka, Onyekachi Apam, Brown Ideye, Bassey Akpan and Terna Suswan also missing out.

Real Zaragoza striker Uche had been struggling with a knee injury while Everton's Anichebe was overlooked in favour of fellow England-based strikers Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Nwankwo Kanu and John Utaka. Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi was included despite missing the end of the season with a knee injury.

Nigeria begin their World Cup finals campaign against Argentina in Johannesburg on June 12, and will also play Greece and South Korea in Group B.

Squad: Vincent Enyeama (Hapoel Tel Aviv), Dele Aiyenugba (Bnei Yehuda), Austin Ejide (Hapoel Petach Tikvah); Taye Taiwo (Marseille), Elderson Echiejile (Rennes), Chidi Odiah (CSKA Moscow), Joseph Yobo (Everton), Ayodele Adeleye (Sparta Rotterdam), Rabiu Afolabi (Salzburg), Danny Shittu (Bolton); Kalu Uche (Almeria), Dickson Etuhu (Fulham), John Mikel Obi (Chelsea), Sani Kaita (Alaniya), Haruna Lukman (Monaco), Yusuf Ayila (Dynamo Kiev); Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Everton), Nwankwo Kanu (Portsmouth), Obafemi Martins (Wolfsburg), John Utaka (Portsmouth), Victor Obinna Nsofor (Malaga), Osaze Odemwingie (Lokomotiv Moscow), Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi (Hoffenheim). This list is more authentic. I got it from ESPN. link http://soccernet.espn.go.com/index?cc=3888 Cheers guys

That is the best we have except you want more DMs in the team.

We will just have to play a DM and 2 CMs in everygame whilst playing 3 upfront.

If we really need to score when we are losing we should switch to 3-3-4 (With someone like Haruna/Kanu playing OM to support 3 upfront).

What No Anichebe?? This is not good ooo  cry cry cry
Re: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by Leonidis: 4:51pm On May 31, 2010
Why all the outcry over Anichebe? He was hardly a ball of fire in Everton - youngsters like Rodwell and Gosling were far more effective than he was.

Yak is a proven goalscorer who has delivered for the Eagles, so I don't see the issue here.

I'm a bit sad Ike Uche didn't make it, I'd personally have picked him over Utaka. But then again with his injury, Lars has the final say and must be trusted to act based on what he's seen in training

Amodu is a good coach that has achieved a lot. Guardiola should go and manage ordinary Boavista and lets see what he can achieve before we know his real pedigree.

I believe he is coaching Barcelona because he has already proved his mettle. I can't say the same for Amodu. If I may ask, "what exactly has Amodu achieved"?

Heard we're playing North Korea on the 6th and Algeria tomorrow, the 1st (not too sure about this one though)
Re: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by BloodShed1: 4:53pm On May 31, 2010
Tell me this is a FVCKING JOKE!!!!!

What irritates me about this is the fact that the friendly with North Korea hasn't even been played yet and he's already made his decision.

Anichebe was left out instead of John Utaka and Kalu Uche ARE YOU FVCKING SEROUS?? Anichebe did more against Saudi Arabia than Kalu and Utaka did in both matches put together.

Anichebe is livelier, taller, stronger, and faster than both of them. He creates far more chances. Utaka is past his prime and Kalu just takes up space.

I just pray one of those two get injured so he'll have no choice but to include Anichebe. I refuse to accept this.

Disgusting.
Re: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by nearest(m): 4:54pm On May 31, 2010
Anichebe shouldn't be ashamed that he decided to play for nigeria. If he had declared for england his chances of getting a call up are slim with the likes of calton cole, bobby zamora, agbonlaho etc all better than him. Having said that, i feel he should have been included in the team, he would be better than papilo {i think he'll just go and sit on the bench} who is so slow, holding up play during a counter attack.
Anyways, on the list generally, i feel Lagerback has made his choice, he's responsible for whatever will happen in South Africa, but with players like kanu, john utaka, martins, ayila et al who have not being convincing this season, i'll not be optimistic. i go sidon look, and wish them luck.

Anichebe was becoming a big name until injury kicked in at the end of last year. He has kind of got back into the first team since returning from injury.

He played quite well against Saudi. He has always been committed to Nigeria and has a dedicated mentality on the pitch.

That cannot be said for Utaka and Obasi especially.

Utaka's touch and football brain that I have seen of recent is pathetic. Obasi, really does not play more than 15 minutes in a game before you wonder if he is still on the pitch.

Big name? I don't think so - he had more than one falling out with Moyes. I think he has an attitude problem and isn't quite as big a player as he thinks.  Besides, just one goal from 8 league appearances isn't impressive at all.

Obasi has a better goal return for his club, and as for Utaka, that appears to be an odd choice. Dunno how he's performed in training.
Re: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by gentlegg(m): 5:14pm On May 31, 2010
Nwankwo, Yobo, Yakubu, Utaka in the list? I see no hope at WC.
Re: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by Marlbron: 5:17pm On May 31, 2010
Apart from Osaze and Utaka, we have no natural  wingers. So choosing Utaka is a o brainer.

Will you choose Anichebe ahead of any of the strikers? I think not. kanu offers experience! You will need experience against teams like Korea and Argentina.

This performance in training thing reminds me of makinwa during amodu's reign, according to him makinwa is the best player during training, but it beats me why he never ever perform in a competitive game.

One question i keep asking maself. . . . . Are we equipped to play 4-3-3 in the World Cup?
Do we have 3 quality midfielders to contain our  group rivals who would be playing 4 or 5 midfielders?

Nigeria as underdogs should be going to the world cup playing 4-5-1(there's no shame in it).
5 Midfielders that would work like trojan horses and support the lone striker when we catch teams on the break.

4-3-3 will be a disaster.
Re: From London: Official Super Eagle Team List by snakova(m): 5:24pm On May 31, 2010
This is no better than Amodu's selection. Utaka and Kanu shouldn't have made the team. This list is surely doctored.

The question you should be asking yourself is "Do we have 11 quality players especially ones that will work like trojan horses".

I keep saying our players are mediocre and we should just support them and see how far we can go.

He was becoming a big name by being the super sub that normally change their fortunes when introduced in European games. He did it about 3 times before getting injured.

Now i am sure you are joking comparing Amodu and Guradiola, I do not need to educate you on this.  Amodu better than Guadiola grin.

Guy forget all these sentiments, if Amodu was better than Guardiola, he would be coaching Barca and not bothering himself with SE. You know what, let me educate you a bit, at this level even to be the coach of Eyinmba you must have something to show not to talk of Barcelona. I am not saying Amodu is better than Guardiola.

I am saying:

1) Guardiola is privileged and you really can not guage his pedrigree well at the moment

2) Guardiola and other so-called world class coached make similar decisions or their teams demonstrate similar weaknesses (pre-ANC) Amodu was crucified for.

3) Amodu has never had the kind of benefits Guardiola has been given on a plate. Let me educate that give Amodu players like Henry, Messi, Ronaldinho, Etoo, Puyol and then you can now start justly belittling the achievement he has with the opportunity he has been given so far. You don't give a man a Ferrari and give another a Beatle and then use the Ferrari record to ridicule the record time the Beatle used to finish a race that the Beatle won.

And lest I forget, the education you promised me was encapsulated in this question:

Sagamite:

Please educate me.

I am awaiting your education.
