He came to use naija connection to get our Jersey.

The fact that he is not playing for the super eagles is a tragedy.

The fact that we let him go for the likes of echejiele still in the team is an even bigger tragedy.

Alaba, 25, also thanked Nigerian fans for their love and wished the Super Eagles

“I want to thank Nigerians for their love and support. I know there is a lot of love for me over there,” Alaba, who plays for German giants, Bayern Munich, said.

“I wish the Super Eagles only the best in Russia.”

The defender whose full name is David Olatokunbo Alabi was born in Vienna to Gina and George Alaba and has one sister who is named Rose.

His Visayan mother emigrated from the Philippines to work as a nurse. His Yoruba Nigerian father is a prince from Ogere, Ogun State. He is also a rapper and works as a DJ.

He holds the Austrian record as the youngest player to play for their senior national team, debuting for them in 2009 as a 17-year-old and has been capped 61 times with 12 goals to his name.

Coach Yemi Tells said he was too small to play for our under 17 that year so he choose Austria over Nigeria.
Tella took Macaulay Chrisantus and other grandfathers and won the under 17 world cup that year.
Where are they today ?
They are as dead as Yemi himself

The guy has never been to Nigeria, I doubt that story of his father bringing him home to test out for super Eagles. When did that happen? At least Alaba is only 25 years old so it must have been recent.

BAYERN Munich youngster, David Alaba, says he should have been playing representative football for Nigeria but was denied by stringent eligibility rule by football officials in the country.

Alaba, whose father is Nigerian and of Filipino mother, plays for Austrian national team but only after he has been turned down by Nigeria.

The defender said he actually planned to join Nigeria's cadet team which won the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship at South Korea but words reached him of his ineligibilty

''I wanted to play for Nigeria but I must confess that there was no formal approach for me. A scout actually discussed that with me. I was excited because of my dad, he was a fan of Sunday Oliseh when Oliseh played for FC Koln. As a kid, I loved to watch Victor Agali in the jersey of Hansa Rostock,'' he told an Austrian news medium.

However, Alaba was shocked when told by the scout that Nigeria had plans mainly for its home-grown talents.

'' I got the information that Nigeria will only consider those who were in the country perhaps because of travelling logistics and that is the end of that."

Beta naija guy not a bastard like dele ali

Shut up there!

Nigerians like to reap where they did not SOW. If Dele Ali had been in Nigeria, he wouldn't have succeeded
Same with Anthony Joshua.

When some countries build these guys Nigeria will step in because maybe the parents are Nigerian.

Youth development is zero in Nigeria. Non of these players representing us today were developed by any government projects, they all made it out of self effort.

Come abroad and see where government is investing on children for tomorrow.
