Career professionals always aspire to reach the peak of their career. However, when you finally become a Manager, there is this feelings of accomplishment that comes with it. But what they don’t understand is that becoming a new manager is one of the most stressful experiences any professional goes through. Well, if you get it right from the beginning, your challenges will not be much. Therefore, this article will focus on the 5 things every new manager should do in their first month on the job.

Most new manager are always clueless in their first month, as they strive hard to keep their head above water. So, below are the 5 things every new manager should do, during their first 30 days on the job.

#1 Start dressing like a leader


One of the things every new manager should do is to start dressing like a leader. The truth is, if you don’t dress like a leader, it will affect your ability to lead.

So, observe how other leaders dress in your organization and follow suit. Also, it is advisable to change your dressing style slowly so that your subordinate will not think you are fake.

#2 Develop Professional Relationship with your staff

This is an important area that every new manager always get wrong. As a new manager, try to develop a professional relationship with your staff not friendship.

Sometimes, over familiarity with your staff often prevents tough feedback. As a matter of fact, your greatest concern as a manager is performance.

So, try to be approachable and friendly with your employees, try to know them better on a personal level. But all your conversation should be professional.

#3 Stay Visible

Staying visible is among the things every manager should do. Try to be visible to your team and spend few time chatting with them informally. This will make them to be closer to you and establish a good professional relationship.

#4 Clarify Expectations With Your Boss

This is also one of the things every new manager should do. It is important to know that every new manager has a new boss who he reports to. So, try to clarify expectations with your new boss. This will enable you to know the organization’s goals and lead your team towards achieving those goals.

#5 Set Expectations and Establish group norms with your team

After clarifying expectations with your boss, you have to set your own expectations with your team. However, it must be in line with the organization’s goal

Also, you have to establish a group norms with your team, this will guide the activities of your team.
