DANNY WELBECK: ENGLAND CAN HURT ANYONE
England striker Danny Welbeck has insisted that the Three Lions “can hurt anyone” in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Gareth Southgate’s side face Colombia in the last 16 on Tuesday, having finished second in Group G after a defeat to Belgium.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Arsenal man Welbeck also praised England’s use of set pieces, from which six of the team’s eight goals have been scored.

LEBRON JAMES TO JOIN LA LAKERS IN FOUR-YEAR, $154 MILLION DEAL
LeBron James is to join the Los Angeles Lakers in a four-year $154 million deal, his agents said Sunday, ending months of frenzied speculation about the NBA superstar’s next career move.

The blockbuster contract sends the 33-year-old four-time NBA Most Valuable Player to one of the league’s most iconic clubs, adding to the legacy of such legends as Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson.

“LeBron James, four-time NBA MVP, three-time NBA finals MVP, 14-time NBA All-Star, and two-time Olympic gold medallist, has agreed to a four-year $154 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers,” James’ management company Klutch Sports Group said in a statement.

MOHAMED SALAH’S NEW CONTRACT SHOWS BELIEF IN LIVERPOOL, SAYS JURGEN KLOPP
Egyptian international Mohamed Salah’s stunning first season with English Premier League side Liverpool earned him a long-term contract with the club on Monday. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said the fact the 26-year-old striker — who scored 44 goals in just 52 appearances last season — signed such a deal reflected his belief the club were on course for a successful era.

Salah’s goals played a large part in Liverpool reaching the Champions League final against Real Madrid. However, that proved a rare sour note for the player as Salah was slammed to the turf by Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, causing a painful separation of his left shoulder.

Salah returned to action for the first time in three weeks against Russia at the World Cup in their group match last month but was a shadow of the player that had dazzled for Liverpool and earned him the Africa player of the year award.

PEP GUARDIOLA WAS ‘KILLING’ YAYA TOURE’S CAREER – EBOUE
Former Ivory Coast and Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue is happy to see midfielder and countryman Yaya Toure leave Manchester City, saying manager Pep Guardiola was ‘killing’ Toure’s career.

Toure was one of the Premier League champions’ most influential players after joining the club from Barcelona in 2010. The now-34-year-old played a key role in City’s League title successes of 2012 and 2014.

But he did not play a significant role last season because he had fallen down the pecking order, making only 16 appearances after signing a one-year contract extension. In May, Guardiola confirmed Toure would be leaving the club.
