Agura of Gbagura and first class traditional ruler in Ogun State, Oba Halidu Laloko Sobekun II, has joined his ancestors. Laloko, who passed on after a protracted illness yesterday, ascended the royal stool of his forebears in 1980. Gbagura is one of the four main sections of Egbaland in the Gateway State. As at press time yesterday, the Gbagura Traditional Council as well as the state government had yet to make official pronouncements on the monarch’s death.

It could not be ascertained whether the traditional ruler breathed his last at his private residence or in the hospital. But palace sources, who confirmed the death, said formal announcement about the passage of the octogenarian monarch would be made after certain traditional rites were performed. The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, could not be reached for comments on the incident.
