Former United States President Barrack Obama paid tributes to Africa's renowned novelists Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie, Nelson Mandela, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, and Hisham Matar, who he described as “Africa’s best writers and thinkers”.

Obama said this ahead of his planned July visit to Africa. “Over the years since, I’ve often drawn inspiration from Africa’s extraordinary literary tradition,”
