The Police are investigating circumstances under which Musa Kayongo, the Kyotera District Police Commander, allegedly lost his handgun to thugs.

This is according to the Lameck Kigozi, the Masaka Regional Police spokesperson.

He said that Kayongo’s pistol is among the four guns that police lost in just one month. However, none of the guns has been recovered, but two officers have been arrested and charged for neglecting their weapons.

Although, they have been handling the matter at administrative level, he says they referred the matter to PSU for more investigations.

The incident reportedly occurred July, 6, 2018 at Bwasa village in Kalisizo Town council.


It is reported that two armed thugs donning military fatigues stopped Kayongo’s private car claiming to be Special Forces Unit operatives.

They purportedly persuaded him to surrender his pistol to help them in an operation after which they disappeared.

A team of officers from the Flying Squad Unit (FSU), has now been assigned the duty to trace for the four guns.

The guns include the one stolen from Joseph Ssentongo, attached to Rakai Police Station, Kayongo (Kyotera DPC), another from a Swat Securico officer in Kyazanga in Lwengo and another from a guard who was shot and killed in Masaka.
