Messi vs Enyeama, a different perspective. by Kgdavid(m): 10:48pm On Jun 15, 2010
While some critics were disappointed by Nigerias showing against Argentina, i on the other hand drew out some salint points that have given me great encouragement. on that day we set out to defend and we were doing that reasonably fine and no argentinian player with the exception of messi was able to cause us much trouble. Messi is the best player in the world and there is a reason for that. it is because he rips defenses apart day in day out so what kind of robots do we have in nigeria that are immune to talent? the other point i wanted to make was the fact that people keep on saying that it was only Enyeama that kept us in the game, an assesment i fully agree with but one that could be misleading when interpreted wrongly. enyeama made about four/five great saves from messi which had he failed to do might have changed the game. however if you single out Enyeama as the eagles star player then it stands to reason that messi should be singled out as argentinas best player. apart from messi's four/five dangerous moments, only higuain had a clear cut chance and nigeria equally had two or three clear cut chances of our own. supposing the two(enyeama and messi) were absent from the game what would have been the outcome? the other two argentine strikers, tevez and higuain were very well handled by the Nigerian defense and although our midfield of Etuhu and Haruna could be considered slighly inferior to Mascherano and Veron they are fully capable of holding their own against them. we also saw that the argentinian defense was highly suspect especially when our coach changed tactics and introduced our most potent attackers (odemwingie, martins, uche). on any other day, when nigeria are ready to play without the threat of the worlds best player tearing us apart, we are going to see a formidable nigerian team. let greece and south korea quake when they hear our name. nigeria will do well in this world cup.

Only if our players are ready and serious instead of snoozing around the field like they did last time.

You know, these days one can't predict the Super Chickens anymore.
