It is common knowledge that when one is born again and starts going to church, he is referred to as a christian. This is because he now believes in christ, has faith in him and follows his teachings. And as stated in the scriptures, his sins has been wiped away and he is now a new creation, old things have passed away and all things made new. As a new convert in the faith, he is expected to follow the dictates of biblical principles as he engages in every spiritual activity aimed at build up his faith and character to become a perfect christian he is expected to be just like christ which is the ultimate goal of the christian journey. Christianity is an experience and also a journey which takes a process.

The process is to attain that state of chrislikness. The word christian means christlike. to be like christ, act like him, do what he will do in every circumstance and avoid what he will not do in any circumstance. If christ cannot lie, you should not lie. If he does not cheat, you should not cheat. If he is not selfish, you shouldn't be. If he does not fornicate, you should not fornicate. If you are still doing any of these things and any other sins, you are not like christ. And if you are not like christ, you are not yet a christian eventhough you believe in him. You cannot separate christianity from christlikeness.

Christlikeness exemplifies the nature of christ. When the believers were first called christians at Antioch, it was because they behaved like christ. The people were awed by the humble, pious and kind disposition exhibited by the believers, and upon enquiry by the jews of who they were, they were told that they had been with christ. And they jew said no wonder they are behaving like him. And they now called them christians, which means christlike.Note that if the believers didn't show any sign of christlikeness in their midst, they would never have been called christians. Therefore what makes you a christian is your christlikeness and not your belief in him.

The fact that you believe in christ and follow his teachings does not make you a christian. You are just a believer and follower who is in the process of being like christ. Christianity or christlikeness is the highest level of spiritual development where one is completely clothe with the garment of holiness, perfect love and selflessness which is what christ stood and still stand for. The bible says that GOD is love and love is GOD. This means if you have love in full measure, the GOD kind of love i mean, you have GOD. The essence of christianity is love, and as christians, our focus should be to work towards perfecting our love for GOD and our fellow men. This is the the nature of christ and what christianity is all about. GOD BLESS YOU.
