AP Photo, Virginia Mayo Ngurah Alit, 18, claimed he thought the cow was a beautiful woman who had seduced him. Local elders forced Alit to wed the beast in order to cleanse the coastal village of Yeh Embang of the bestiality. Alid passed out during the ceremony, while the cow was subsequently drowned in order to complete the ritual. He is not the first, and most certainly will not be the last, to pledge their troth to something other than a human being.
