A report from The Telegraph suggests that Chelsea are stepping up their pursuit of a new technical director to replace Michael Emenalo who left the club for Monaco.

Emenalo left Stamford Bridge in November and the club have been without a technical director. Marina Granovskaia stepped in to deputize in the role.

However, the Blues have put plans in place to appoint a new director and targets have been sounded out with Roma’s Monchi being mentioned.

Chelsea had initially pulled the plug on appointing a new director this summer as they were in the market for a new manager.

With the appointment of a new manager now out of the way, the Blues are keen to get a new sporting director appointed.

Another name that has popped up as a potential target is the FA’s technical director Dan Ashworth who is reported to be interested in the prospect of returning to the club.

Former Chelsea players in the likes of Juliano Belletti and Michael Ballack have been previously linked with the role at the club, and are also targets for the club.

Monchi would be a suitable candidate going by his antecedents at Sevilla and presently Roma in the Serie A. He has established himself as a reputable entity in the field.

Sarri could also play a part in the appointment as it is believed that he would prefer a technical director who speaks his native Italian.
