N’Golo Kante since the arrival of Italian boss Maurizio Sarri, have been deployed to a different role. The French international have been licenced to move further up in the middle of the park. This have seen him score Chelsea’s first league goal of the 2018/2019 football season against Hudderfield on Match day 1.

The Chelsea star featured with Teammate Jorginho in the recent game against Arsenal, with the Italian sitting deep to protect the back four. Pedro, Morata and Alonso all scored as Chelsea defeated the North London side.

While Chelsea did their bidding in overall, the former Leicester city midfield had enviable match stats. Kante had three shots at goal. Completed 92 percent of his passes, won three tackles and made complete dribbles in style.

Blues Legend Pat Nevin was full of praise for the Frenchman in his interview.

“The question will be asked by many Chelsea fans, is it really a good idea to have so many attacking players on the field and also asking our best defensive midfielder, N’Golo Kante, to play that much further up the field, especially when we come to face the very best sides?” Nevin told Chelsea FC’s website.

“Time will tell but as I have suggested already on this page, Maurizio Sarri is unlikely to stray from his stated style.

“Kante himself looked incredible in his new role, making runs behind the Arsenal defence that any centre-forward would be proud of. It does leave Jorginho more often than not as the deepest midfielder and his best talents are clearly creating from there rather than covering defensively.”

Am not Chelsea fan but soccer lover. However, Kante is a talented midfielder. He is really fitted both in defensive or attacking position. Kudos to him.

Sarri shouldn't risk the best of our players with exposure to possible injuries. Any good oq top 'A' team will counter such attacks and give him back-to-back goals in style, and woe betide Chelsea if we lack players to injuries

That dude is extremely hardworking. On another note, someone like Kovacic isn't even guaranteed a starting shirt at Chelsea while someone like Fred is starting United games.

I think there is nothing wrong in this experiment {Seem to be working}. I believe the idea is for Kante to keep the mid fielders of the opposition deep in their half because of his incredible work rate. If he adds to the attack good. The space thus created is what Jorginho is using .... he has so much time on the ball hence his 93% pass completion rate in the last match. Time will ultimately tell how succesful Sarri/Kante will be.

Comparing Chelsea to Madrid... Jorginho is our Modric while Kante is our Casemiro.
What Sarri is doing is the same as Real Madrid asking Modric to play defensive midfield while Casemiro plays in attacking midfield.
Jorginho doesn't have the physique and strength to play defensive midfield in a tough league like EPL. Since passing is his biggest asset, he should play attacking midfield and allow the best defensive midfielder in the world to play his natural position.
Let's assume that Sarri is experimenting with both of them, but this experiment will fail against the top teams. If not for Arsenal's profligacy, or perhaps, stupidity, Chelsea would have lost their last game by 6-3. It is almost certain that any clinical team we play against will expose the defensive incapabilities of Jorginho and capitalize on that to punish us. Sarri also need to be tactically flexible because this is EPL. Against the big teams, he should play both Jorginho and Kante in defensive midfield.

Meanwhile, Kante himself is OK anywhere on the pitch... The guy is just incredible.
