Robert Cray is known for his catchy lyrics, and clean guitar sound, with no wasted notes and nothing too flashy, yet, this blues journeyman has been on the scene for many many moons.

From his humble start playing gigs in bars for years with little to show for it, Stevie Ray Vaughn rose to become an electric blues guitar legend whose name is still mentioned in the same breath as the elder statesman of all rock'n roll guitar players, James Marshall Hendrix.

Observe Jimi Hendrix tear it up in Berkeley California, with his rendition of Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode", that literally bought the house down.

Josh Turner is a very young guitar virtuoso, who happens to play a mean blues guitar, in addition to many other genres of music he has mastered at such a young age. I just ran into this beautifully sparse acoustic guitar instrumental served up by this hugely talented musician.

Robert Johnson was said to have sold his soul to the devil (na lie).

There's a movie called the Crossroads. Really interesting, Ry Cooder did the soundtrack (and some playing) I think.

WyZoe you have mentioned a couple of the elder statesmen whose names feature prominently in the history of Blues music, and in so doing you have demonstrated superb taste in this genre of music.

Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Lightning Hopkins, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, along with a host of other pioneers of the art-form, are often described as the founding fathers of the Blues, with the late great B.B King taking up the torch more recently, when those earlier predecessors left this world to join the night shift.

Your response is much appreciated sir. The Blues is not a particularly popular genre of music in Africa today, which is ironic in that it was black descendants of African slaves taken to America, that created the Blues, way back in the days when songs were used as a coded means of communication among slaves whose masters often forbade them to speak, as they toiled through long working days, on those cotton farms.

Yes sir, the blues has a long, and tragic history, in America, and yet, accounts for some of the most uplifting and emotive tunes ever written by the hand of man.

You're right, the blues isn't appreciated in these parts. It's such a soul stirring artform.

Well done again. I'll post a few more of my favorites from time to time.

Mark Connor (or something like that) on Violin. I think he won a violin championship in his youth.
Frank Vignola on guitar; a wonderful man and insane guitar player. I hope to shake his hand one day (George Benson too cool )

Mule by Kenny Burrell. One of my all time favorites (I wonder why it isn't more popular). I love the entire album (Midnight Blue) but this particular track, I can play all day.

A blues fan's wet dream. Two Gods, Larry Carlton and Robben Ford. Larry is another wonderful man and educator.

Now there is some serious funk right there, served up by the Dynamic Duo of Larry Carlton and Maestro Robben Ford.

Anyone who can listen to that beat, without tapping their toes, should have their vital signs checked for sure.

Listening to Oscar Peterson pounding out those distinctly bluesy piano riffs, illustrates so well the generous overlap between classic Jazz, and the Blues.

While my personal taste leans more in the direction of traditional blues, the subtle blend of jazz brought to bear by modern blues guitarists like Robben Ford and Matt Schoefield, does elevate their sheer versatility of technique well above the old-school Pentatonic scale playing axe-men like Eric Clapton and "Gentleman" Robert Cray.

Great music list from you bro, keep em coming, and who knows, a convert or two who may yet be found, who are ready to break with tradition and follow the Gospel of Blues, here in the Nairaland forum ha ha.

Speaking of "God", aka Eric Clapton, check out this clip from a concert in Tokyo. Wait for that extended lead guitar passage, where he pulls out all the stops and goes for broke. This is Clapton at his blistering finest, with not a single note out of place even as the hurricane rages onstage. The real fireworks kicks off right about the 1 minutes, 45 seconds mark in this video clip. When the stars are aligned, Mr. Clapton takes no prisoners, as he invokes the spirits of the Mississippi Delta. This is one of those moments.

Just stumbled on this video of Otis Rush and Eric Clapton playing some sublime blues riffs under hot spotlights, while sweating profusely like the seasoned journeymen that these musical giants are.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN71NPAXCkc

Listen for the 3 min 10 sec point when Eric Clapton eases on up with a nice slow lead guitar solo that soothes the soul in these troubled times.

Both of these blues legends can sing up a storm too, I tell ya no lie mon, old school blues holler style with lots of gravel in the voice.

Stumbled on yet another guitar player of formidable talent called Sean Mann. Listen to him play John Mayer's anthemic tune "Gravity". This man is a powerhouse rock and roll guitar monster, whose influences run from Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughn on up to John Mayer.

Next Mr.Mann just does some tasty jamming with a strong bluesy flavor

Finally, Sen Mann takes on the Jimi Hendrix classic and adds a whole new dimension to it with much additional fireworks.

A couple of days ago Electric Blues Guitar Guitar Maestro Sean Mann dropped another rework of that timeless rock'nroll classic entitled "House of the Rising Run".

In this richly melodic tour-de-force of electric rock/blues guitar prowess, Sean Mann briefly switches from his trademark Fender Stratocaster guitar to a nylon-stringed acoustic guitar that allows him to showcase his fretboard mastery as a seasoned classical guitarist. This guy is a living guitar genius with a comprehensive musical vocabulary delivered with serpentine fluidity and impeccable percussive timing. Mr. Mann's star is still ascending, thanks to social media.
