AE-FUNAI, GAVLE UNIVERSITY, SWEDEN TO PARTNER ON EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT
Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State is to partner with Gavle University, Sweden in a European Union sponsored international programme tagged “Education for Sustainability.” This hint was dropped yesterday when the University Management hosted the representative of Gavle University, Associate Professor Christsantus Biamba.
“My aim is to help you develop collaboration with Gavle University especially in the areas of Education for Sustainability Development, staff/students exchange programme, international credit mobility and Capacity Building in Higher Education that involves several universities but your institution will coordinate the programme”, he said.

Biamba, who is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business Education and Educational Services in the University, noted that he has an interest in internationalization and multi-disciplinary research, geared towards improving academic curriculum to ensure sustainable education in developing nations.
Welcoming the guest, the Vice Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, noted that the institution aims at becoming a world-class centre of learning and research, stressing that the establishment of the Directorate of Internationalization, Advancement, Linkages and Global Ranking was to partner with off-shore organizations in order to improve the global standing of the institution.
“Our University prides itself as the Home of Soaring Eagles. We are embarking on aggressive international collaboration to ensure global visibility, and we are ready to collaborate with Gavle University”, he said.

The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by his Deputy, Professor Sunday Elom further stated that the University was ready for the collaboration in order to explore possible areas of mutual-benefits, adding that the institution was already collaborating with many international bodies like the French Government through Campus France.
He also commended the tremendous effort of the Dean, Faculty of Education; Dr. Chinyere Nwajiuba and the Director of Internationalization, Professor Afam Icha-Ituma, in linking the University with international partners, which led to the visit of the Gavle University representative.
Earlier, Dr. Nwajiuba, noted that the idea of collaborating with Gavle University was borne during the 43rd Conference of Association of Teachers in Europe which was held in Sweden, stressing that she was among the two only Africans that attended the conference. She maintained that the conference provided an avenue for her to interact with willing partners, which eventually gave birth to the collaboration with Gavle University, Sweden.
