UAE123:You echoed my thoughts. Gutter journalism. Besides, this isn't a sink hole. A gully erosion or a landslide would be a better descriptive |

Yesterday it was oil pollution in the Delta and some were saying how come with all the derivation. Niger state has beem seeing free money since independence yet this. I tell you. Only restructuring can save Nigeria. Resources without a structure of accountability can never guarantee suatainable development. No man on earth who receives anything free will ever value or optimise it. Three years of the 'most accountable', 'incorruptible government' ever abi... yet basic life remains worse. If the people of that locality were directly responsible for that road, it will certainly not look like that. They will either seek the resources to fix it themselves or learn to live with the consequence hence it will not be news. Japan is a tiny island of mostly hills, mountains and swamps. No natural resources whatsoever, subject to constant volcanic activity, eathquakes and tsunamis. Yet they manage to exist and put themselves as the third biggest economy in the world with a population the size of two Nigerian states and having experienced a world war and two nuclear attacks. What is our problem in Nigeria. Our best brain in government says 'better management of resources'.... can you imagine.... |

OP is right, this is 100% a sinkhole! This is not erosion. Erosion washes top surface away. Sinkhole sinks a hole in between anywhere, and some holes can be as long, wide as a town, and deep as a sea floor. Biggest known sinkhole was about 120km wide and 80km long, and the deepest known is over 300m deep. How do you survive that kind of fall? Scary stuff. Known to swallow buildings, cars, people and anything on it. Only few lucky ones who experienced it have survived a sinkhole. It’s a natural killer. Sinkholes are not caused by erosion. Because erosion affects top surface, the displacement of the top surface of the ground or soil. But sinkholes are caused by rock, sand and other sediments moving deep inside the ground, leading to breaks and cracks and space in between the earth inside the ground. |

Re: A Massive Sinkhole On Niger State Road (photos) by eaglechild: 6:57am On Sep 05, 2018 |
MobilityExpress:That is absolutely not a sinkhole. It is a gully erosion. If you look at the pictures you'll notice that the gully has been enlarging along the drainage line, also notice the sand bags along the road that has been put there over time to try and curb the erosion menace |
