A 36-year-old Nigerian father of one who died following a violent struggle with police, on Wednesday, has been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as Chinedu Valentine Okobi.

The confrontation occurred on the 1300 block of El Camino Real in Millbrae about 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said Okobi was running in and out of traffic and “immediately assaulted” a deputy who tried to make contact with him.

Four other deputies helped take Okobi into custody. One of them fired a Taser, said San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe, whose office is investigating the death with the coroner.
Okobi was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The deputy Okobi allegedly attacked, was also treated at a hospital for unspecified injuries.

The deceased was not armed, but he stood 6-foot-3 and weighed 330 pounds, Wagstaffe said. All of the deputies who were involved in the confrontation have been placed on paid leave.

The investigation, which will include Okobi’s official cause of death, is expected to take no more than 10 weeks.

However, in a post on Facebook, his elder sister, Ebele Okobi, said he was struggling with mental issues.

One of the worst countries in the world to resist arrest from the police is America. As a black man for that matter. Especially an immigrant black man.

Nigerians in diaspora should return, unless you have something really great going on there.
They need to come home and develop their country.
For example, there's this fantastic one plot now for sale at Opebi with a C of O, at a give away price of 55m. A 'Diasporan' can offer to buy that, build something cosy and enjoy being at home with 8,033,540,956 other Nigerians.

Instead of running in and out of traffic upandan.

In as much as I love your advert, but your suggestion is like asking one to move from heaven to hell. That they authorities are investigating the cause of his death is a plus to their system. Compare that with what happens here....how innocent people are killed at minimum provocation....

Nigerians in diaspora would prefer to die a beggar in diaspora than to deal with spiritual, physical and mental slavery here in Nigeria. You call 55 million Naira but how many Nigerians in diaspora will ever save such an amount? How many Nigerians lliving in 9ja will ever save up to 10 million in their lifetime? Forget all these yahoo boys and entertainers making it seems easy, majority of Nigerians were born poor, lives poor and will die poor.

That his sister must be mad too for giving the authorities such a bad report of his brother having mental problem. She should have allowed them find out what caused his death.
