The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the incumbent president of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his certificate is with the Nigerian military.

Stating this in a sworn affidavit, he states thus; “All my academic qualification documents as filled in my Presidential form, APC/001/2015 are currently with the Secretary of the Military Board as of the time of this affidavit.”

This is coming at a time when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released a list of political parties who will be participating in the upcoming general election in 2019.

The drama took new turn when a Nigerian, Lere Olayinka wrote to the Military through the Chief of Defense Staff intimating them on the need to forward President Muhammadu Buhari’s certificate to INEC so that he can stand a chance of contesting in next year’s general election.

The presidential candidate of the major opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has submitted his credentials while the incumbent president has failed to do so.

Recall that in the wake of the 2015 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari submitted a similar affidavit to INEC on which platform he won the elections but Nigerians are questioning the rationale behind the failure of the president to submit his credentials.
