It would look sweet on paper but by the time you start the programme you would know Nigeria is a shithole. This is what I dreaded when I started, if not for God my lot would have been like yours. I took my destiny in my hands, I insisted my fees and allowances be paid. Infact I took my matter to Abuja, it was one of the most challenging experience ever. Padi Padi means what though? This kind of mindset is why the country is where it is today. The scholarship was pure merit and many of us are from humble backgrounds, you think if top politicians had their kids on this we would be coming to nairaland here. Menial job is not the problem but if you went to school abroad you would know menial jobs cannot pay your tuition fees, rent and still live decently except you are doing the menial jobs full time! Is it not stupid that we have to resign "white collar" and go be slaves in another country?

Thanks for adding your voice to this. The current government is totally responsible for this. GEJ has played his part and this was one of his best achievements that Nigeria would celebrate in the near future. He cannot do much now that him and his party are out of power. There seems to be a conspiracy to abandon the scholars abroad because majority are southerners and that is very sad. It is also sad that a Professor as Vice President does not see how grievous this is for our human capacity development as a nation. If I say this has not made me give up on the current arrangement of the entity called Nigeria, I would be lying. I hope they hear our cries and do the needful.

The PRESSID scholarship were for the best amongst the bests. The 1sts among first classes. The types that many nations would long to have. Because of politics, religion and tribe, they have taken to the streets. They sent a letter to Osinbajo but, sadly, Osinbajo’s hands are tied in matters as this. The Presidency of Buhari and Kyari will only be moved to respond if (1) the names are from areas or religion they feel is right (2) if there is a sustained international cry and coverage.

I have a few friends under the PRESSID and I’ve told them to do what is expedient for their surviva. Send letters to institutions of other countries, to their embassies with their academic profile and research contents. Offer to partner with them and to change their research aim and objectives if need be. Offer to go there after graduation. Countries will willingly take you in— they are always looking for talents. A friend of mine under PRESSID has done this and a certain 1st world Asian country have taken over his sponsorship and offered him a place after graduation.

Nigeria as it currently is has no place or space for bright minds. It feeds on its bright youths— with mediocre youths as enablers, as purveyors.
