Most people who come from smaller devices like feature phones must have had a lot of their contacts saved on the SIM card. Yes, and that’s why the error is just so irritating. the No contacts on SIM Card error.

Make sure your device is set to show all contacts including SIM contacts

This is one of the first things to check to make sure your device isn’t wrongly configured. Your Android device can show either contact saved on
your SIM card, Google account, phone storage, Whatsapp, Truecaller, Messenger, Samsung account, MI account or even all of them, depending on the accounts on your device.

So what if you mistakenly set it to display or show just the contacts on your phone storage? Then, if it’s
empty, you probably won’t see anything. So to make sure your Android device is set to show all the contacts on the SIM, phone, Google etc, follow this guide.

Open your Contacts app from the app drawer.
Click on the options button.
Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
Tap on Contacts to display
Select All contacts

You should now be able to see all the available contacts on your device, including those on the SIM card. You can select to show only SIM
contacts, to be sure.

Put Your SIM card on another phone to also check

Sometimes our device might be faulty software or hardware wise. So, to be very sure it isn’t an issue from the device, look for a working device or a smaller phone and insert your SIM card properly.

Go to the Contacts and see if your SIM card contacts are displaying. If it’s, very good! If it’s not, there are more things to try okay.

Check your Android App permissions
As simple as this may sound, it causes loud problems. If you deny any app the necessary permissions it needs to function well, it would surely
misbehave.

This is mostly seen on newer Android versions and is always set up at the initial setup of the device. The first time you open an app e.g camera, it asks for permissions to access important aspects of your phone.

So if you deny it any, it would not work.

Go to your Settings from the all apps section.

Select to view All apps

Go to your Contacts or phone app.

Open the settings

You should immediately find an option Import/Export contacts Click on it and in the corresponding prompt, select Import Contacts from SIM card.
Next you have to select where to import them to. Choose Google, phone storage or what ever option that suits you.

Select all the contacts(if available) and allow it to import.

When done, you should now be able to find the imported contacts in the contacts list.

Check your SIM Memory status

Messages!

Yea, it does save messages in its memory. So how do you know if the SIM memory is filled up and it is making your Android device not to be able to access the SIM contacts?
Let’s quickly run through the fix. It’s pretty simple and straightforward but a life/phone saver.

The first thing you have to do is to go to your default SMS/Text/Messaging app and open it.

Click on the options key or the 3 dotted icons at the top right of your screen(depending on your phone type/model/software version.

Select Settings from the drop-down menu.

Select More Settings

Click on Text Messages

Select Manage SIM card messages

If there are any messages saved on your SIM, it will be displayed here.

You can mark all of them or the useless ones and delete them.

Now joyfully go back to your contacts, the SIM contacts will now be visible.
