The Volunteer’s Role

The purpose of the Communications Advisor volunteer is to support Education as Vaccine’s (EVA) various programs and initiatives in how they presented to the public. You will play an important communications role for EVA by reviewing internal and external materials that are used to promote EVA’s role in health and development of Nigerian youth. Your communications lens will be helpful to EVA in its efforts to expand its scope of activities in reach within Nigeria.
EVA is a youth-focused non-governmental organization committed to improving the health and development of children and young people in Nigeria. Over the past 5 years, the organization has successfully implemented several projects across the country and has recorded significant impact in these projects. While community members, donors, and staff might be aware of these successes, external communication of these achievements has been poor. A key element of the organization's communication strategy is to intensify its external communication outlook by documenting and sharing lessons learned from its 15 years’ experience.
As a volunteer, you will:
- Support the development and management of information and communication materials
- Develop training/ learning materials to strengthen documentation practices
- Research external funding opportunities and support EVA in proposal development
- Research and write stories which capture the impact of EVA on Nigerian youth
- Train and mentor EVA staff on effective data and knowledge management
Essential Academic Qualifications:
- University Degree or college diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or other
relevant field
Essential Professional Background:
- Experience in advocacy
- Experience in the development of information, education and communication materials for diverse audiences

Education as Vaccine

Terms and Conditions

Cuso International terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle while being effective in your placement. This support package will cover basic living expenses for one volunteer and is not intended to cover home-based expenses (ex. loans, support payments, etc.) or luxury items such as imported items in placement or international personal travel.

Support Package
- Modest monthly living allowance (varies depending country)
- Accommodation while in placement
- Return airfare and visa/work permit costs
- Cost of required vaccinations, antimalarial medication and health insurance
- Pre-departure training and in-country orientation
- Travel and accommodation for reintegration debriefing weekend
- Modest support for accompanying partners and dependents going on placement with you for 12 months or longer (Return flight, emergency medical insurance, vaccinations)
- Access to Employee Assistance Program while in placement and upon return
- Cuso International assessment day (Candidates must cover the first $200 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and all accommodation costs).
- Travel and accommodation for the five-day pre-departure training course and for in-country orientation
- Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months

Fundraising
We ask each volunteer, regardless of placement length, to raise $2,000. All volunteers receive support from Cuso International to help achieve the goal through fundraising. If the volunteer chooses not to fundraise or is unable to achieve the fundraising goal, he/she can make a one-time donation or become a monthly donor to support our work.

E-volunteering
Depending on the nature of the placement, volunteers are encouraged to provide e-volunteering support to the local partner or Cuso International before or after the field placement. Volunteers also have the option of requesting support from an e-volunteer to help them with their work while they are in placement.

Residency and Citizenship

Residency
The majority of Cuso International volunteer applicants are residing in Canada at the time of application and during the pre-departure process. Occasionally we received applications from volunteer applicants who are residing outside of Canada at the time of application. In both instances, between your application date and placement start date, we must be able to contact you and you must be able to contact us easily and promptly throughout the process.
We may require your passport and would need to be aware of your current place of residence and any travel plans you may have during this time. You will also require unrestricted access to Canada during this time for assessment and training, as applicable.

Citizenship
Leaving your country of residence can have significant effects on your citizenship status in that country. It is your responsibility to research the consequences of travelling to Canada during the pre-departure process if you are living outside of Canada and of leaving your country of residence for a placement with the immigration authority where you live.
By applying to this placement, you accept full responsibility for any consequences related to your citizenship, residency and immigration status or penalties as a result of travel to an assessment day, training course, international placement or other Cuso International related travel.
You must check the implications that apply to you, but examples include:
• Canadian permanent residents may need to make arrangements with immigration authorities before travelling. These arrangements allow them to travel without risk to their status in Canada. Without them, residency status may be withdrawn.
• Citizens of other countries, including those visiting Canada on a visa, may have travel restrictions.

Once every year, NMS opens admission for suitably qualified candiates to apply. The application period usually opens between middle of February to end of May. NMS trains male Nigerian Boys only. STEPS/PROCEDURES FOR NIPR STUDENT REGISTRATION:

- Students obtain registration form either by downloading from the Institute’s website or it can be picked up from any of our offices in Abuja or Lagos.

- Payment of Ten thousand naira (#10,000) being the registration fees which is to be paid into the Institute’s account.

- Submission of forms to the office. The form must be filled with all necessary documents attached (SSCE Result and other relevant documents) including four passport photographs.

STEPS FOR EXAM REGISTRATION:

* The registration form is screened by the Exam officer to determine what level of exam student is to sit for.

* Upon confirmation, the student gets to pay the exam fee.

* The student tenders the payment teller and is given an examination form to fill and submit.

* The student gets a copy of the syllabus upon completion of Registration.

Once all forms have been submitted and documents verified, the student will be communicated by email/SMS on the notification for exams and also a copy of the exam time table would be sent. The student would also receive his/her exams ID card with an Exam /Registration number.

The Registration number is valid for 3 years from the date of Registration which is renewable upon expiration with the sum of #5, 000, payable to the Institute’s account.

EXEMPTION:

Graduates of Mass communication who wish to sit for the diploma exams will be granted exemption from the Certificate stage upon the submission of their transcript and a payment of #30, 000 being the exemption fee.

RESULTS:

Once results are released, it will be uploaded on the website and notifications (through mails and SMS) will be sent to students so that they can check their results on the website using their registration numbers. The hardcopies will be pasted on our Notice boards at the Abuja and Lagos offices.

STATEMENT OF RESULTS:

Students can pick up their statements of result immediately the results are released.

NYSC EXEMTION.

The NYSC exemption is a certificate issued by NYSC. It is issued to our students who have completed the Institute’s Certificate and Diploma exams. For now, the exemption certificate from NYSC is on hold as the Institute is renewing its terms with the NYSC.

The African Public Relations Association (APRA) the umbrella body for the practice of public relations in Africa is seeking the services of an individual that will primarily advice its Executive Council on issues of governance and economy in Africa.

Description

The selected person will be responsible for the following;

0. Preparing position papers on issues of continental importance
0. Advising the Executive Council on issues of continental importance
0. Looking for opportunities for the association to partner with relevant organizations across the continent and beyond
0. Helping the association in its objective of been a strong advocate and voice of influence on the continent especially among key stakeholders
0. Provide various platforms for the association to enlighten on the benefits and workings of the free trade agreement
0. Advising on the interface between the association on one hand and the African Union Commission (AUC) as well as the AfCFTA secretariat in Accra, Ghana

Qualifications

Candidate must have a strong knowledge of International Relations with a strong emphasis on Africa.

Candidate must possess a minimum of first degree in International Relations. Masters in the same discipline will be an advantage.
