TonyeBarcanista:You are making sense in a different way, if I was born and brought up in the north doesn't mean my fluency in Hausa will transcend to English language. I can dominate the north in my local way, Intellegency is never an expression of dialect only, but how you can work things out |

Albert Einstein was not proficient in English he struggled with learning lanaguages so not sure how you equate learning and speaking English to being intelligent. |

MissRaine69: Let us focus on Nigeria where English language is taught as a subject right from nursery school and one of the major subjects you need to pass to gain admission into the university. Having said that, one can easily conclude that any graduate from a Nigerian university who cannot speak, read and write correctly must be full. They are the ones who always struggle in class. |

StylesX:Come to England and see how fluent and sweet their spoken Queen's English but 70% of them can't write correct English I am talking from experience. Kemi Adeosun speaks fluent English maybe than Ngozi Okonjoela, but do u want to tell me that she is good than Ngozi Okonjoela in any ramification of life? Fluent English does not means you are genius. English is just a language like Yoruba,Hausa and Igbo |

Biglittlelois: Yea, I agree with you. Since English is our official language and uses in communication in schools and workplaces, you cannot say it any better. Most intelligent people I come across are also sound in English though, they may not be big grammar freak like that man from Edo. 1 Like |

Modarun:Most of my medical colleagues from aboard struggle with the language but they are brilliant minds. Colonisation makes you think the invaders language is superior to your own . I am aware of many native English speakers who have an atrocious command of the language I wish I could have subtitles to comprehend what it is they are saying. |

80% of peeps here got the OP wrong. OP, your topic should've been: "IS FLUENCY IN A LINGUA FRANCA A MEASURE OF INTELLIGENCE?" A Russian, Chinese or French university or high school graduate is fluent in Russian, Mandarin or French. They have no business with English because they were not taught with it and it's not their lingua franca. As a Nigerian, you can't pass through 6-3-3-4/5 (learning in English Language) and write/speak rubbish like the corps member did and be pardoned. I'm not saying you should be 100% and "blow big grammar" just know your tenses, pronouns, sentence formation etc. 1 Like 1 Share |

MissRaine69:It makes little sense otherwise. That's why people read between the lines. People who are native speakers of English still struggle with it at school - because it takes intelligence to master the intricacies of adverbs, concord and parallelism. It's the same issue with French or any language with a vast vocabulary and sophisticated grammar. 1 Like |

MissRaine69: So you're saying there's no problem when a university graduate uses: Am for I'm, there for their, were for where, order for other, been for being, etc? Come on! this is our official language. We've been schooled with it from elementary school to the university, we converse with it, etc |

Adding to the debate, is there any difference in intelligence and brilliance. I think psychologically there's a difference. If we can sort out the meaning of these two words, then the argument will be resolved to some extent. |
