Bros, first of all, be sure to read up your letter of engagement... its really very important before you start asking questions. If you are very sure the deductions are not letitimate, you can then appoach your HR and also the breakdown of your deductions... some companies like Nigerian Breweries and British American Tobacco have higher taxation due to alcohol and cigarette and so they dont pay tax percentage like the regular citizens. Please be sure of that before you make conclusions

Guy....the company pays on the 5th.....that's their policy. Dec 5 was the first pay day since you were hired.... were you expecting full salary regardless of your employment date?...full salary regardless if you started Nov 12 or 21?

On 40% deduction......how you figured it was a deduction and not pay advance because of Christmas?.....do you even know if it is a Christmas bonus?...afterall...pay day is January 5. Guess you are not used to working with companies that follow international best practices.

If your present salary after deductions is higher than your previous, then stay. You can leave after six months or a year when you get some thing better

Ask Mr. China why the salary deductions, buy if he doesn't give a cognitive reason, don't over react, manage the job till you get something better, don't leave this job to sit at home. Think.

1. Since you said they pay like 5th of next month and its not that time yet, its possible they are paying some now because of the festivities and the balance at the normal time because 40% deduction at any point is not reasonable and also the first month is understandable.

2. You might want to check with your colleagues to have a perfect understanding of what is really going on because capitalist might be funny. They can say because you have closed for the year, they are prorating your remuneration. #my opinion...

If you started work on the 12th of a month, you shouldnt expect to be paid a whole month salary. Your salary will be prorated.the first case will be highly justified. For the second payment, you will have to find out... Take note taxes , pension, will justifiably fall under deduction, but it shouldnt be as much as 40%. All things being equal.

Make a complaint to the Public Complaint Commission in your state. They handle such administrative injustice and the law empowers them to investigate both public and private offices.

Very simple
1. Confirm if it's your monthly salary, because you said they pay 5th of the month. Ask other colleagues if they got alert and use style to ask if it's salary or December Bonus
2. Ask the chinko HR. Funny how a chinko will be HR in Nigeria.

I will assume that you earn 18k monthly in your former company. Since the description of the letter stated 'Dec salary' then it is. Perhaps paid earlier due to the festive season.
There is little you can do about it. Manage them while you search for a better place to work.
