Site clearance has been carried out and foundation setting followed up almost immediately. The site soil condition is very firm and stable, however we have a very bad topography having up to -900mm change in level.

This necessitated a stepped foundation (strip), consisting of 18 column pits 750mmx750mm.

"we have a very bad topography having up to -900mm change in level" can you please explain what you mean with the above quoted statement?

The site is been characterized with steep slopes up to -900mm to the site datum at the deepest part. Which will require a lot of filling

The pace of work is quite impressive as we were able to achieve blinding, using 1:4:8 and casting of column base (1:2:4) on day 2.

To aid smooth operation of all site activities, we needed to facilitate easy access to good water, we had to sink a borehole. This is covered under project preliminaries.

Having hinted the client on amount of filling sand that would be required for backfill the foundation. He approved the exacavation of septic tank (4m x 2m x 3m). This excavated earth will be used to backfill the building foundation and the Septic tank will serve temporarily as a water reservoir.

The 150mm drilling process lasted for a day using manual method, terminating at the depth of 20meters. The quality water obtained from physical examination and taste is good for construction purposes.

Work had resumed on site a long time ago but we have been so occupied to keep updates. Apologies please.
Amongst this, we have had issues with funding from the client, because we committed to delivering not only quality but sustainable works we recognized the challenges and bear with the client.

Foundation
The foundation is completed on schedule, we have three courses of blocks at the front of the building and seven courses at the rear, this was due to the steppy nature of the soil we had mention earlier. Consuming total of 1200 9 inches blocks.

Spetic tank
The spetic tank is 85% completed. To reduce burden cost of back filling, the soil excavated from the soil is used to backfill the foundation.

Backfilling and Oversite concrete
Total number of 5 trips of 20tons laterite filling was bought in addition to backfill the foundation which compacted manually at three intervals.

Oversite concrete was recently completed, despite the fact that the client shows his concerns as regards the projected cost of carrying out this activity, we kept our stand, stressing the importance of following construction standards by using fabric mesh and having a damp proof membrane.
This was difficult for him and we understood him clearly, But again it pays to do it right at first attempt. We couldn't compromise even if we had to carry out some at our own cost.
