New Deji of Akure Emerges by oludashmi(f): 10:23am On Aug 12, 2010 |
AKURE kingmakers Wednesday selected Prince Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida as the Deji. The stool became vacant following the dethronement of Oba Adepoju Adesina, after a brawl with his wife, Olori Bolanle. Seven of the nine kingmakers voted for Prince Adesida, making him the favourite candidate for the throne. Adesida is a graduate of the Institute of Science and Technology, London. He was a Chief Science Technologist at the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State. He was for eight years the Director of School of Science Technology, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State. The 60-year-old prince was among the first set of students of Aquinas College, Akure. The kingmakers will forward Adesida’s name to the government for approval. Prince Adesida is a graduate of the University of Ibadan where he red Agricultural Economics. He has a Masters in Agric Business and Management. He is into construction and importation. http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/news/9387.html At last, they didnt reinstate the former king, good one and lesson for others. |

This same yardstick should be used on public officers, any scandal they are involved in and it is proven they should be forced to resign. Our journalist should become more covert and imbibe a thorough investigative demeanour in the way they go about their business. Today we have camera phones, and other small devices that can record un-wanton utterances which can end political careers this should be encouraged. When someone is caught red-handed there is always almost little or no room to manoeuvre one self out of such howlers and quagmires, so the earlier we start bringing some of these crooks down the better it would be for Nigeria. We all saw how a Ghanaian Minister and a Zambia Minister where forced out of office because of a $20,000.00 misappropriation. The same action should be extended towards those Governors who are in the habit of over inflating contracts to their own benefit. |

Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by oisehumen(m): 1:29pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
Fhemmmy:. Wetin u dey talk? Plenty fringe benefits like marrying many wives , dining with the BIG in the society like Governors , plenty servants, endless convoy of cars as escorts I could go on and on. |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by readydad(m): 2:02pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
Fhemmmy: Of course plenty plenty fringe benefits. Or you thought only the British monarchy get royal treatment? The Oba's life is one of leisure and comfort for himself and his descendants for life. He is a mover and shaker in society and never has to work for anything. Free food, cars, houses and property, even free phone credit sef |

readydad: Do Nigerian govt pay for all these? |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by bisiaet: 2:26pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
This is a good development and it will serve as a lesson to others who think be in a position is all in all and can do and undo. With the few profiles I had just read about the new king and with what the kingmaker and the people experience in the hand of the deposed king I am certainly sure they did good home work and listen very well to their oracles before making him the new king. It is welcome this develoment, very nice one. |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by readydad(m): 2:27pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
How else? the subjects got to maintain their king! Its normal, just all the legislators feed fat on our tax and sweat |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by kokoye(m): 4:42pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
Fhemmmy: I think so. He is a first class oba in the state so he will have several cool benefits from the govt. Plus really, the people who become obas have always wanted to be - they have that royalty drive in them regardless of whatever they are doing |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by kobikwelu(m): 5:42pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
how does this affects the average man on the streets of zamfara *************moves on********* |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by Nobody: 7:01pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
Fhemmmy: No Govt does not pay. Obas get a nominal salary, which is just a stipend, nothing to write home about. The city fathers sustain the monarchy (that is if the Oba is not already an incredibly wealthy person in his own right, most of them usually are) by arm-twisting the rich citizens and corporate organisations into 'dropping' cash. Most prominent citizen 'drop' willingly anyway, since most of them are appointed as High-Chief, Otunba, Asiwaju, etc. It's a highly complicated system of patronage. The Oba also wields a lot of underground political influence in his domain so if he knows how to play the game he uses his associates, kids and trusted family members to front businesses for him and get contracts from the politicians - more money. In fact, too much money. |

Nchara: fyi, the king is the head of his people, from time, crown princes are groomed and given best of training, the present Awujale was installed in 1960, he was trained in UK, Olu of Warri was trained in UK, same for Ooni of Ife, Oladele Olasore of Iloko Ijesha is among the best financial professionals in the Africa, in the North most of present Emirs are retired Military Generals. |

Na waoooo!! It is just so ironic that our traditional leaders can boast of some of the best Academic and Intellectual achievements while our Senators and Representatives want the maximum requirements to enter into public office be a WAEC School Certificate. I am sure three C's and a Pass is enough for them (Maths and English not included) Bastards!! |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by kobikwelu(m): 12:01pm On Aug 13, 2010 |
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ kinda puts things in perspectives, most of our present traditional rulers are very very educated and well travelled before assuming their thrones, but the NAs have touts in their mist |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by oludashmi(f): 1:50pm On Aug 13, 2010 |
I think this kind of yard stick should be used for our politicians, you mess up, you get away ashamed! They will all sit tight instead of national honourary award for someone who has a money laundering case in court. |
Re: New Deji of Akure Emerges by dayorsum: 5:25pm On Aug 13, 2010 |
I will advice him to use his wealth of experience and literacy to change the face of Akure. Although I'm not a regular visitor to the town, but I believe he can improve on what's on ground to a greater extent. |

A@ All, Greetings to all. I'm a new comer on this forum and going thru some posts, I think it is a good place to be. As for the new Oba, I think it is a thing of mind. I still wonder why some pple will leave lucrative job and lau-lau spending life for a confinement one? It all bothers down to choice. bowei: @ bowei, Are you speaking for urself or the entire community? dayorsum:I want to believe u are new to Nigeria system. B4 u know it, this Oba will be prostrating for Governor for juicy contract and will neglect his primary duty as a monach |

IF a regent is going to be chosen, the candidate elect would be his oldest daughter according to tradition. IF she agrees, perhaps. and only if a consensus cannot be quickly reached. |

Deji of Akure detribalised, peace loving – Sultan The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has described the late Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida, as an extremely detribalised Nigerian, whose love for peaceful co-existence was unparalleled. http://www.punchng.com/news/148150/ |
