very true. In a private hospital they might bill u 150k or above but for a teaching hospital its less. Even sef can even visit any of the catholic churches around and make enquires. There are some that invite skilled opthamologists to treat cataract infection for a reduced sum. There is one catholic church i attended some 3 yrs back and they did such a programme.

Less than 100k at the Lagos state general hospital.. my dad got his removed last year and everything is fine.. stressful and I think you need to know someone to get a close date.

I know someone who has same problem but I am scared to encourage the person to go for the surgery bcoz I fear it may worsen the person's sight problems.... Some Nigerian doctors can be very careless

There are various types of surgery for cataract depending mostly on the age of the patient and preference of the doctor.
In teaching hospitals, for each eye, it shouldn't be more than 40/50k...

In private hospitals here in Ajwa ibom, it is almost 80k per eye..

When I hear 750k per eye for cataract surgery, I am scared oh. Except they are using laser for the cataract, it shouldn't be that expensive.

My groundmum just did her in Benin, when we initially took Her to a private hospital that charge us 350 for one and both 700k, guest what we left and took her to UBTH arhat charge 45k for each both 90k

Eyes surgery cost less in govt hospitals but in private they will drain you .

There are specific eye drops to clear it. Don't argue what you don't know. I have cataract and was due for surgery but one of the doctors said I should use the recommended eye drop first and if the eye drop doesn't work then we can proceed with the surgery and it really worked. you use it for a month then the following month you don't use it. Also you should know that there are two types of cataracts and if there are more types I want anyone in the forum to add to the list. we have senile cataract caused by aging and diabetic cataract cause by diabetes. if blood sugar is well managed the cataract cause by diabetes can get better without surgery

It all depends on the hospital. My mum just did hers at National Eye centre Kaduna (the biggest eye hospital in West Africa) and the total cost is less than 70k. I have contacts there and the hospital boasts of modern day equipment and experienced manpower.

Niger optical centre in ENUGU gave us an estimated bill of 210k, but KADUNA is by far better and cost-effective

This past January 2019, my father had the operation on his left eye at St Josephs Eye Hospital, Mgbirichi Imo State for about N70, 000.

Depending on the ward the patient would like to stay in the hospital bill can get a bit higher. So at most with N1000, 000 can suffice for the surgery. Maybe for both eyes the amount might double.
