Top places for a job seeker to work in Nigeria is a federal agency or a multinational firm.

A federal agency is a corporation or a ministry owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria. They are created to serve specifically assigned purposes across the legislative, judicial and executive branches of the government.

Examples include NNPC, Ministry of Education, Bank of Agriculture, Police, and the like.

Not all federal jobs are top-paying. Some agencies pay higher than the others. Some top-paying agencies that deserve a mention include NNPC, Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank of Industry, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Nigerian Ports Authority, Federal Inland Revenue Service, etc.

Federal jobs have security, and, on upon retirement, gratuity and pension may follow.

But the problem with federal job in Nigeria is that getting it is mired in heavy corruption and unbridled nepotism. The percentage of people who get such jobs on merit is very very low. Nearly all workers were assimilated because they know, or connected to one influential or top-rated politician or the other.

Don't give up hope. Check with multinationals. Some of them pay higher than federal jobs. And recruitment is generally based on merit. You need not know anyone before you are offered a job here. Just prove yourself and conduct yourself well in tests, interviews and performance. But slots are limited.

A multinational company is a business that has operations in more than one country. Some have businesses in [almost] all the countries of the world. Examples of multinationals include Shell BP, Google, Texaco, Glaxo Smith Kline, Nestle, Dangote Group, Schlumberger, and the like.

In conclusion, the higher paying a Nigerian federal job is, the more corrupt and nepotistic the employment process. In [some] government ministries or agencies, if you don't have a top politician to sponsor or sign your application, you may be wasting your time.

Your best bet with regard to getting a top-paying job without needing to know Who's Who are multinationals.

More examples of multinationals operating in Nigeria:

Microsoft, Chevron, Intel, Coca-Cola, Guinness, IBM, Julius Berger, Price Waterhouse Cooper; DHL, Friesland Foods, UAC, Unilever, Halliburton, 7up, Maersk, Airtel, MTN, Etisalat, Cadbury; PZ, BAT, Mobil, Total, KPMG, Baker Hughes, Lafarge, Accenture, and the like.
