Well people need to be logical here, someone like Jose Mourinho would not sign the Nigerian goalie because he hasn’t got the frame and height as an average goal keeper, how he handles crosses would determine how long he would survive in the premier league or Bundesliga…. His concentration level could be a factor for him joining a team in Spain or Italy! But the most important here is that the most teams would not buy an African keeper because they are not like a striker or midfielder that you could sub during a game they settled and seeing them dashing off to the African Cup of nation for 6-8 weeks every 2 years could be distracting…. When Songo was at Deportivo he hardly showed up for Cameroun the same with Kameni most clubs wants a settled goalie, most especially during the business end of the season (after xmas)

He's good no doubt about that but [bold]he can get jittery sometimes![/bold]

Him better pass "Manuel Almunia, Arsenal FC, Goalkeeper"

Well we all saw it when Ike Shorunmu conceeded 6 goals at Leeds in the CL sometime ago, lets hope Vincent has a better outing
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by Redman44(m): 10:26am On Sep 06, 2010
Vincent Enyeama is good and I feel he deserves to be the first choice goalkeeper of a club in the main European Leagues. It is just that there is a way the football system works in Europe. African Goalkeepers are not really focused on in Europe and that may be why Enyeama has not got his due recognition. The Clubs that were interested in him due to his wonderful performance at the World Cup might have considered his long term usefulness before deciding not to sign him. As long as Enyeama does well in Nigerian colours, I'm okay with him. Cheers.

We Nigerians love to engage in self deception; the truth is that ENYEAMA is an average guy who is working really hard.
He is truly working hard. One day big clubs would start fighting over him.
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by babariches: 10:52am On Sep 06, 2010
Height is the problem about his career
its not that he is not good enough but
there are standard rules in football
especially a goodkeeper no matter how you are good
there is a particular height you must reach and if not u career may not go far.
And this is true in Enyeama's case.
When a goal keeper tall there are some goals they will never have conceded.
If you watch Nig vs Korea match at wcup
Korean's 2nd goal was due to Enyeamas short height.
this was technically commented on Ajaz Sat.

I think the guy is even fortunate to have gone far this length in his career.

Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by denony(m): 11:30am On Sep 06, 2010
If Enyeama is a player, he will be playing in the biggest team in the world
But keepers hardly move beyond their present position.

But the guy is great

@Omar, your comment is pointless! if dat should be d case, don't u know how many (1st team) players dat chelsea R goin to miss durin d ANC? Figure it out urself. (N dey'r even more important in dia clubs)
so long as EPL is concern, If dey'r to list 10 best keepers (Enyeama included), Eyeama must make d 1st 10 list. Enyeama is (by far) better dan some "whacky Cocky" goal keepers in EPL. @Edward said Enyeama is better dan Almunia, of which is true! Den how many goal keepers R left in EPL dat can beat Enyeama in d EPL best goal keepers 10 man list? Figure it out urselfs. Messi always find back of d net whenever he plays against Real madrid dat has 1 of d best goal keepers in d world (Casilas), buh with d 5star performance of Enyeama on dat day, denied messi a goal, is it by luck? NO! Daz what he's good at. To cut it short, @Ayowumie has said it all!!!

Op, if Enyeama goes to a big club (as u think) n b'com's bench warmer over dia, i'm sure u'll be d 1st to make a topic about it! there are two things counting against Enyeama;

1. his height.

2. luck (an often under estimated factor in modern day football)
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by manblaaque(m): 2:53pm On Sep 06, 2010
most prem teams already hav their 1st and 2nd choice goalies, he needs 2stop trustn in his few man-of-d-match performances and b consistent al d way 2a world cup final,or champ league final, den,he'l get a top club.

His agent must be doing a poor job marketing him. . . he should've secured a move away from Israel by now.

Why don’t you engage your brain first before you talk! Name me an African goalie at a top club in Europe? Why do you think arsenal fans have written off this season, because they don’t not have faith in both keepers they have, like Jose Mourinho said a good Goalie could gain you an extra 15 points… but not a short one now because of his height he would find it difficult to keep in the England?

Interesting contributions. We all are entitled to our point of view as long as it is not considered offensive/falls foul of forum rules.

Anyone who lacks ambition in life is done for. Therefore as some people commented above, i refuse to believe he is just contented to remain and possibly end his career in Israel. In my first post i did not say he needs to play for a Chelsea or man u, but in any of the clubs in western Europe and that include those in Portugal, Holland, etc.

playing in this seasons ecl may do his career more harm than good as there is a good chance of them being eliminated in the group stages and been hammered in each match.

In conclusion, the main fault rest on his agent who failed to capitalise on the ups after the world cup to market this guy to a better club. He may as well have missed a once in a lifetime opportunity.

i have never stood next to enyeama or know his actual hieght but i dont think his is less than the average for his role. is he really that short? i imagine he is in the same range as pepe reina, victor valdez, et al.

we are not talking here of him going to arsenal, or the likes, but come on, he should be good enough for a blackpool, newcastle, sandoria, lens, racing, etc.

Pepe Reina is way taller than Casillas and Valdez… both Casillas and Valdez goalie came out from both Madrid and Barcelona’s academy that’s why they stood by them… but Casillas has the agility… when you look at how Oliver Khan comes to punch out a crossing its like a monster is coming but Vincent hasn’t got the presence! And goal keeper are a specialist role that most clubs have them in abundance in their youth academy and they tend to have a longer career into the late 30’s that’s why clubs hardly change goalies unless if you are in demand or your crap
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by medjai(m): 4:30pm On Sep 06, 2010
Its not Enyeama's fault that he couldnt land a contract at a much bigger club. The way these things work you sometimes cant explain. Edin Dzeko has for over two seasons been one of the best strikers in Europe but he has remained at a modest Wolfsburg. Same thing goes for Luis Suarez and also Igor Akinfeev who despite being hailed as one the best goalies in Europe has remained at CSKA Moscow. Kameni too has remained at Espanyol.
If he remains consistent over the next couple of seasons, I'm positive he will move to a bigger club
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by buzugee(m): 6:33pm On Sep 06, 2010
because of his size, or lack thereof. european clubs like their goalkeepers to be very tall and lanky. this size psychologically thwarts strikers efforts at goal scoring. its a mental thing. europeans are very cerebral when it comes to picking goalkeepers. this is the most important part of your team. a goalkeeper that is
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by buzugee(m): 6:51pm On Sep 06, 2010
picture this,  you, a striker are running towards the post from the right flank and it is just you and the keeper, then the keeper, a 6ft 5 fella with an arm-span of 7 feet moves out of his goal ever so slightly and faces you , i can bet you with his size, he will have covered up the goal post, all you can do at that point in time is to kick a miracle banana shot that will curve around him. not many people can do that.

for his height, he is the best he can be. not a lot of clubs are checking out for midget goalkeepers  grin no matter how good they are. so personally ? i think he is over-achieving by being the best goalkeeper in isreal. now if by some miracle he adds about 8 inches to his height (he might have to holla at those orthopedic surgeons who specialize in bone stretching procedures, although quite frankly i think at his age, his bones have completely fused up and cannot be stretched ) and with his current skill-set, i can bet you top clubs in europe will be falling all over themselves to sign him.

your reply to my previous post is "way off" track! I just can't figure out where u'r headin to! what am i naming u an african goal keeper dat's in a top club in Europe for? what has dat gat to do with my previous comment? pls, go back n re-read my post, n try to comprehend it very well so when u reply me, i'll know what u'r talkin about! N who n who amongst d Arsenal fans wrote arsenal off dis season? I'm an Arsenal fan n im stil fukkin comfortable with Almunia n Fanbiaski (despite some mistakes dat dey make somtyms). It happens to every goal keepers, both players!

Dis is what u said on your previous comment, n i quote: "But the most important here is that the most teams would not buy an African keeper because they are not like a striker or midfielder that you could sub during a game they settled and seeing them dashing off to the African Cup of nation for 6-8 weeks every 2 years could be distracting…. But, did the guy himself said he is dying for another club? why not leave the dude alone, he is happy where he is at, he is scoring goals and voted best keeper so why cant nigerians just mind their business,

PS. if the dude wants to live his present club, i believe there will be clubs dying all over europe dying for his signature, yes. cos he is that good
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by Reference(m): 8:54pm On Sep 06, 2010
Guys, how many goalkeepers moved over the summer compared to out-fielders. They come in last off the shelf because a.) The very top clubs do not feel the need for a change. Go through the elite euro clubs and ask which would need a keeper and you'd get 5% at best.
b.) Their life expectancy is much longer than out-fielders so chances come few and far between.
c.) Goalkeepers are not necessarily match winners, more like tournament winners and here most coaches are short-sighted.
d.) Most importantly, teams feel the need to spend their top dollar from the front backwards (Barca, Real, United, Arsenal, etc) strikers first, midfielders next, defenders last and keepers, well maybe January.

Anyway Enyeama's situation is good. He will play a few CL matches and what greater motivation - to keep your team going as far as possible. His time will come. Believe me. Boy, just keep it up for the eagles.

If Almunia and fabianski can be in goal for one of epl's top side then Enyeama defo deserves a bigger club

I challenge anyone to dispute the fact that Enyeama is a better goalie than Almunia, fabianski, Paul Rachubka's of blackpool and Hahnemann of wolves

Enyeama is definitely good but not world class. He is certainly no peter cech or casillas. Lets get over this patriotic bias, nobody cares about him in europe except Nigerians

but most of the goalies in the world cup struggled, ie spain, england, germany, etc. the jabulani ball did not help matters
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by davidif: 2:09am On Sep 07, 2010
omar22,
you are right the most important things you look for in a goal keepers are;

TALENT (INSTINCTS/ AGILITY/ ATHLETICISM)

TECHNIQUE (look at robert green's poor technique that caused USA to score at the world cup)

POSITIONAL AWARENESS (being in the right place at the right time and not getting cut out of position)

PRESENCE (THIS COULD INCLUDE HEIGHT AND OTHERS)

CONFIDENCE (INCLUDING COURAGE)

To highlight just a few points, courage could include the willingness to put yourself in harms way just to get the ball. Looking at the decline of Petr Cech over the years because of the skull fracture.
The great goalkeepers have this like Peter Schmichel, Oliver Kahn, Gigi Buffon and very few others.
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by Ranoscky(m): 12:36pm On Sep 07, 2010
^
R u sayin b'cos Robert Green made a mistake in d world cup, dat means he lacks technique? so JUST a mistake can lead 1 to lack of technique? N R u sayin dat Enyeama lacks all what u listed above? Nna men, nothin wey person no go see for dis NL. Well, everybody is entitled to his or her opinion. what do u expect me to say? HUSH!!!

All i know is, @Ayowumie has said d main GOOD reason y he (Enyeama) has not yet been to big clubs in Europe!
Re: Disappointed In Enyeama by HAH: 1:06pm On Sep 07, 2010
The truth is the he cannot get a big club because he is in israel and the israeli league is seen like any other middle eastern league.as a matter of fact we have better players in nigeria than in israel. my advise to him is to first move lesser western leagues like belgium and holand from there he can prove himself and move to either epl or laliga.
