English giants Chelsea and Manchester United are now among the top 5 most supported clubs in Europe. In a survey conducted by Sport+Markt, the English champions and runner up are ranked 4th and 3rd respectively in Europe in terms of support base.

According to the survey, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea are ranked first to fourth respectively while German champions Bayern Munich moved up from ninth to fifth.

With Barcelona support base increasing to 57.8 million fans they remained top. Real Madrid had 31.1 million, Manchester United had 30.6 million while Chelsea had 21.4 million. Bayern who climbed up the ladder had 20.7 million fans.

Two Spanish clubs and two English clubs making it into the top 5. Ironically all four club were neck to neck to the end of their individual league titles with Chelsea and Barcelona winning by whiskers in England and Spain respectively. Sad point is no Italian side made the top five even after Inter Milan’s splendid treble last season.
