4 Signs Of A Faulty Speedometer Sensor by Godspower35(m): 12:23am On Apr 08, 2019
The electronics of today's cars and trucks is extremely complex. One of the simplest devices we rely on to provide factual data is the speedometer. Majorly, the speedometer is powered by three independent components; the speedometer on the dashboard, the cable attached to the drive shaft by the speedometer, and the speedometer sensors attached to the drive shaft for measuring speed. Some speedometer problems are due to dirty or faulty sensors that transmit incorrect data over the cable and eventually appear on the dashboard.

The symptoms listed below indicates that there is a problem with your speedometer sensor:

1.
Speedometer does not work

Whether you have a digital or manual speedometer, if it does not display accurate information, it does not really help you. One of the biggest signs that your tacho sensor is not working properly is that the tachometer is displaying inaccurate readings or that the needle or digital numbers on the tachometer gauge are not moving at all. A faulty speedometer sensor can also cause a tachometer to operate irregularly, causing the reading to fluctuate from one speed to another; although you are not actually accelerating or slowing down.

If you think you are driving faster or slower than the speedometer indicates, it may be a good idea to have your vehicle checked by your mechanic as this may be a problem with the sensor that can be repaired. Being proactive in repairing your speedometer problem can improve safety, not only for you, but for others on the move. It can also reduce the potential to get two quotes; one for acceleration and one for a damaged speedometer.

2.
The cruise control does not work

The tacho sensor is also a critical component for the proper operation of a vehicle's cruise control. If the sensor is not functioning properly, it will not send a signal to the CPU, which will affect the vehicle's ability to set the throttle to the desired speed. As a safety measure, car manufacturers construct the cruise control so that the cruise control sensor does not activate the cruise control when it starts up. For most cars sold today, this is indicated by the illumination of the cruise light on the dashboard - even if it is not turned on. When this problem occurs, the tacho sensor may need to be replaced.

3.
Check if the engine light comes on

The tacho sensor is located in the transmission and is attached to a drive shaft that affects several functions of the vehicle. As a result, the Check Engine Light in the dashboard may illuminate when a sensor problem is detected by the vehicle's CPU. Regardless of why the indicator light is on, this is neither a good thing nor should it be avoided. If the engine light comes on at any time, contact your mechanic as soon as possible to diagnose the problem with the correct diagnostic tools. Sometimes the problem is small and the CPU needs to be reset. but do not take this risk.

4.
Vehicle loses power

Today's cars and trucks have electronic fuel injection, which is controlled by the on-board computer. The EFI supplies the engine with fuel based on the input of multiple sensors. One of them is the tacho sensor. If you find that your car is losing power; In particular, if you apply pressure to the throttle, this may be due to a damaged or faulty speedometer sensor. This problem can be harmful to other mechanical components of your vehicle. Therefore, do not ignore the problem. Contact a certified mechanic as soon as possible to find out what causes this problem.

POINTS TO NOTE
As you can see, the tacho sensor affects the operation of multiple components so you can run your car or truck efficiently. If you notice any of the above warning signs, contact a professional mechanic to properly diagnose and correct the problem.

Experience has shown that some of the sensors hardly fail to discharge functions expected from them rather other faulty parts can be responsible.. Most especially electrical fault is the most complex type to trace and detect.. I want to point out that the speedometer fault you just mention can aswel be trace largely to malfunction of BCM.. Body Control Module usually place below the steering at driver side.. BMC control all inner electrical function that include Mirror, radio, information in dash board etc Atimes many believe inability of power mirror to function properly is due to the It's ineffectiveness but recent revealing has also shown that bad BMC can aswel be the culprit.. The major culprit in this part of the world is access to qualify personnel and largely absence of genuine replacement parts.. A situation whereby motor owner continue to spend unabated just to clear certain fault..
