Interns at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (Formerly Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital) decided to take the streets of Portharcourt in protest of seven months unpaid salary.

They were seen dressed in their ward coats carrying placards with varying inscriptions all calling on the Rivers State Government to quickly come to their aid and pay them their salaries that has accumulated to seven months.

The Protesters that included House officers, Pharmacists, and Medical Lab scientists have worked for seven months and have not been paid a dime, and knowing that internship is a one year programme, they have just 5 months to go.

Some of the protesters were bitter that they have been taking transport to work on borrowed funds, others find it difficult to feed while others don't even have funds to rent an accommodation and have to squat with friends under embarrassing conditions.

This is a call to the Governor Wike Led Rivers State Government to come to the aid of these young health workers and ensure they receive their alerts so that with a sound mind, they can take care of their patients.

For me I think it's best to stay on topic and not go the route of insulting the a governor of the State or bring in other unrelated issues to this matter

You guys are quick to blame Wike for the security issues Rivers State is facing but fail to hold the Rivers APC, The Federal government and Nigerian Army for fighting against the Neighbourhood safety watch commission that was duly enacted by Rivers State House of Assembly and remains the most feasible solution to the security issues Rivers is facing today!!

Our leaders should try to sort this out asap.
Health workers shouldn't be on strike.

oh my God!
This is very sad.

The truth is that if these ones write professional exams and find themselves abroad, no body should blame them.

We can't just keep re-enforcing failure.

The way our doctors and other health workers are migrating to countries where they are appreciated more is a sign that in the next 10 years, there may be less than 300 practicing doctors in Nigeria.

How much will it cost the government to pay them ?

Chai! I weep for my soon to be former country.

I am pained.

I hope you will make this comment in the future when you would have spent reasonable sum training your son through 8 years of medical school only for his certificate to be used for popcorn processing.

Unless you don't believe in Karma grin

Useless Country where well trained intelligent healthcare professionals like these young people render invaluable services are treated shabilly yet we complain about the activities of yahoo yahoo internet fraudsters who have decided not to work but live off scamming others. If the governor, commisioners and house of assembly members are not also being owed, then woe betide the useless state government. The day of reckoning is near in this country. My advice to you guys be patient, get prepared write ur board exams and vamooze from this shithole. It's worth it.

There reason why we were educated is for us to be versatile and multitasking....instead of crying and begging for money switch to something else and let them come and take their hospital, how can you stay for 7 months without pay. Can Buhari stay for 7 months without pay, is Buhari as intelligent as you guys, Buhari that has no WAEC . The curse of the lord is upon the house of the wicked.....I don't care what they have stolen and kept for their kids, as many that are involved in this untold hardship upon this young men, may their generation, Alive and yet unborn experience no peace. may all their stashed wealth and hidden treasures develop wins and fly.

My God see the idiotic lots above still defending that cultist govenor, and blaming his predecessor for his actions, just because of his political affiliation

Wike is a satanic Govenor, if you've lost any innocent friend to the spate of cultism, insecurity, in that state and you have an iota of human feelings we would clamor for removal of that openly cultist govenor,

Its also a no-brainer that the state with the highest federal government allocation would owe salaries, this has never happened in lagos state for example

Cultism and violence would never stop in Rivers when the average youth knows the govenor dosen't hide the fact that he is one of them, we are doomed in this country

Ps. I also wish Amaechi would be irrelevant in that state, but it was never this bad even during his tenure
