Tyre blowouts, be it in budget or premium tyres can occur at any point in time. It doesn’t necessarily have to do with the quality of the tyres. It’s much risky when it happens on the highway. Here is why!

There are at least 5 tyre bursts on the average on our roads. This occurrence is more of on the highway.

Tyres are the only part of the vehicle in contact with the road. It bears the brunt of the load it carries.

Causes of tyre blowouts on Nigerian roads
There are many reasons that lead to tyre blowouts on the the highway, but the common causes are:

1. Collisions and cuts, by sharp objects on the road (metal bar, stone, glass).
2. The heavy impact from objects on the road, that causes the tyre to be damaged or torn (potholes, large rocks)
3. Over inflation or under inflation increases the risk of tyre damage and can burst in the event of a collision with an object.
4. The operation when tyres have been damaged (cut, edged) or improperly repaired and patched.
5. Tyres are too worn, the depth of the tread is too low
6. The impact of weather, ozone, chemicals or oil
7. Tyre pressure drops due to valve cracking, rupture or leakage in the valve heart, wheel, etc.
8. Driving above the tyre speed limit.

What to do when you have a tyre burst on the highway?
To prevent accidents when the tyres blow on the highway, the driver should calmly take the following steps:

1. Press the accelerator pedal for a few seconds (in case your car is not moving too fast). Do not hold the brakes too long to avoid skidding, and to help the car run straight without being diverted.
2. If the rear tyre blows out, the driver should apply his brake to slow down the car and park. When braking, keep calm because the vehicle can be shaken violently, causing the driver difficulty to take control.
3. If the front tyre blows out, the situation is more dangerous because the front tyre is the guide tyre. The driver will have a hard time to steer, so use as much strength to hold the steering wheel while you keep the car moving straight.
4. When the car regains balance and slows down, the driver must not hastily apply the brake. Apply the brake slowly till the car stops, because even when the car is running slowly, sudden braking could sway the car.
5. Activate your emergency flashers.

Very educative post OP!
Overinflating of tire is the major factor. No long stories. Most saloon cars require 35psi, but all roadside vulcanizers use 40-50psi.
