South Africa Freedom Day Celebration was celebrated in Helsinki on Friday 26th April, 2019 though the actual date is today 27th, April. The event which was filled with pomp and pegeantry was organized by the South Africa Embassy in Finland and Estonia and members of the diplomatic corps graced the colourful event in numbers.

The South African Ambassador to Finland and Estonia, H E Ms Carmine J Smidt and the good people of South Africa were very happy to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the enthronement of democracy and the end of the reign apartheid in South Africa.

Mixed feelings has trailed this year's celebration as election is underway, South Africa is grappling with soaring youth unemployment rates, sky-rocketing crime levels and signs of a struggling economy, politicians in the country have used this elections season to issue promises of better days to come.

Why do South Africans Celebrate Freedom Day?

It was the first time that every South African citizen was given the right to vote.

For the first time in South Africa’s history, people of colour were allowed to vote for parties which just a few years earlier were still banned under the apartheid government.

It marks“the end of over 300 years of colonialism, segregation and white minority rule and the establishment of a new democratic government led by Nelson Mandela and a new state subject to a new constitution”.

The Namibian Ambassador (middle)
The election took place on 27 April 1994

The ANC presidential candidate for that first election was Africa's number 1 democrat, The Late Nelson Mandela who is widely credited for brokering the peaceful transition of power in the country.

Members of the diplomatic corps
At the end of the polls The ANC won the election with 62.65% of the vote. The National Party (NP) received 20.39%, Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) 10.54%, Freedom Front (FF) 2.2%, Democratic Party (DP) 1.7%, Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) 1.2% and the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) 0.5%

What we know is evil was defeated in South Africa.
As President Mugabe of Zimbabwe said
"those who don't agree can take a plane back to Europe. The trip will not take as much time as it used to in 19th century when people were traveling by boat "

What can you expect when the State has been captured Mafia style ? Working with the corrupt Gutas, President Jacob Zuma fired Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and eight other cabinet members in a high-stakes power play that may threaten his own presidency and place the nation’s investment grade credit rating at risk.

Gordhan was replaced by Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba, who has no financial or business experience, while ANC MP Sfiso Buthelezi takes over from Mcebisi Jonas as deputy finance minister.

The cabinet overhaul came in a late-night move that threatens to split the 105-year-old ruling African National Congress and trigger a revolt against the president. The rand extended losses, heading for its worst week in more than a year.

“In the space of 15 months, Zuma has fired two well-regarded finance ministers,” said Nicholas Spiro, a partner at London-based Lauressa Advisory, which advises asset managers. “Unlike when Nene was fired, the opposition to Zuma within his government is now much stronger, presaging a full-blown political crisis. The rand will be punished even more severely and the whiff of a junk rating is in the air.”

The evil has not been defeated in South Africa, Jacob Zuma wont appear in court for his serious crimes against the country. The ANC is protecting him. The legal system has been captured.
Jacob Zuma said in a Public statement that the ANC will rule till Jesus Christ comes back. When you read the shocking book written by Jaques Pauw
you will see how all state departments were corrupted by Zuma to ensure that the ANC will rule over a poverty stricken majority.

Download the free PDF and cry when you see how hearless the ANC is toward the people that gave their life for freedom. After 25 years all that got is millions more shacks.

Zuma has survived a series of scandals since he became president in 2009. The Constitutional Court last year ruled that he broke his oath of office by refusing to repay taxpayer’s money spent on his private home.

The Public Protector also implied that he allowed members of the Gupta family, who are in business with his son, to influence cabinet appointments and the issuing of state contracts. Zuma and the Guptas deny having ever intentionally broken the law.

South Africa is doomed under the ANC rule.

The ANC knows very well what needs to be done to avoid junk status. For many years, however – and especially in the past 11 months, when the threat of downgrades has been most acute – it has been doing the opposite. So much so, in fact, that it seems to have been inviting junk status.

Two global ratings agencies, Fitch and S&P, now rank South Africa’s rand-denominated debt at sub-investment (junk) status. Moody’s has placed the country on downgrade review and could well follow suit in March 2018. If that happens, South Africa will be excluded from the Citi World Government Bond Index (WGBI). This will compel institutions mandated to hold only investment grade bonds to sell out from South Africa, with estimated outflows ranging from $6-billion to $10-billion (about R80-billion to R140-billion).

You do realize Jacob Zuma is out and there's a new head of prosecutions that comes from the ICC that's been tasked to prosecute all those involved in State capture and I'm not even including the Commission Of Inquiry Into State Capture that is currently tasked also to help in the prosecutions of those involved in corruption.

The rating agencies you quoted has since changed there outlook to stable while Nigeria is still in junk status.

Though I hate the path SA has taken the last 10years it is still better of then most of the corrupt states on this continent and the bullshiiiiit you wrote here is one sided based on outdated reports.

Now come back when you can quote Fitch or Moody's on their 2019 reports because you totally out of touch with the changes currently in SA.

A dangerous Leopard never chages its spots. Current president Cyril Ramaphosa has been put in place to protect Jacob Zuma and hundreds of other corrupt ANC officials.

In my opinion, there’s enough evidence to charge Ramaphosa under the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, a possibility flagged at the inquiry by counsel for injured and arrested persons, Dali Mpofu.

It’s possible that because he was pushing for a murder charge against Ramaphosa, Mpofu lacked the time to pursue this lesser crime. In one of his emails, Ramaphosa tells his Lonmin colleagues:

[d]iscussion with Minister Susan Shabangu –- I called her and told her that her silence and inaction about what is happening at Lonmin was bad for her and the government.

Given that, as acknowledged by the commission, Ramaphosa was a senior member of the governing ANC with enough weight to place pressure on the minister of police, the final words in the statement could be considered a threat. Whether or not Shabangu was influenced by Ramaphosa is not critical in terms of the law -– making the threat (just like offering a bribe) is illegal.

Elsewhere, Ramaphosa seeks to convey that he was a friend of the workers. But, as chairperson of Lonmin’s transformation committee he was responsible for the company’s failure to abide by its commitment to build 5,500 houses for employees, instead completing only three dwellings. Moreover, he benefited materially from the low wages that were the main grievance raised by the striking workers

I would rather come back with more substantive info. It is info that will help understand the dark hidden inner secrets of the ANC and how their greed keep millions of their supports in terrible poverty, no jobs, no electricity, no houses etc, etc.

THE ANC ALLOWED THE KILLING OF INNOCENT WORKERS STRIKING FOR HIGHER WAGES AT CYRIL RAMAPHOSAS GOLD MINE WHILE HE WAS DIRECTOR.

For an apology from Ramaphosa to have credibility, there should be full disclosure of everything he knows. This has not yet happened.

Furthermore, the following should happen:

Full compensation to be paid, without further delay, to miners who were injured or wrongfully arrested and to the families of workers who were killed;

Adequate funding for investigations by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate into which police officers should be prosecuted for the Marikana massacre deaths;

Charging the police whose case files are now with the National Prosecuting Authority; and

The immediate dismissal of Police Commissioner General Riah Phiyega, who was suspended after the commission found she lied during her testimony.

The Claassen Inquiry, appointed by President Jacob Zuma, recommended her sacking over six months ago, yet she continues to collect a large salary more than four years after a massacre in which she played a pivotal part.

Ramaphosa’s “apology” makes one wonder whether he’s in denial or just a desperate politician with presidential ambitions. But his expressed regret was dishonest and disingenuous, and will not remove the stain that Marikana placed on his reputation.

Peter Alexander is the author of various publications on Marikana, most recently an assessment of the Farlam Commission of Inquiry published in the Journal of Southern African Studies.
