A few unbelievable phone comparisons have been making the rounds here on this section of Nairaland. Someone legit compared an Infinix to a Redmi Note 7! Lol. I could chalk that one up to a case of ignorance. There are other cases where it is done deliberately to confuse or mislead others especially in an argument especially by unscrupulous persons e.g. Samsung Galaxy 8+ vs Xiaomi MI A2 Lite.
Just as there are categories in boxing (super heavyweight, heavyweight, middleweight, and lightweight etc.) phones are also categorized into divisions too. And when it comes to comparisons, phones should only be compared with those in the same category.
There are four main divisions and several sub divisions of phones based on my personal research. Factors considered in classification are: SOC, performance, camera, display, build and durability.

1. Flagship: The best and most expensive phones on the planet that money can buy e.g Samsung Galaxy series, One plus series, Xiaomi MI series etc.

2. Midrange: This is divided into upper, middle and lower tiers. Phones here are reasonable priced and are capable of high performance e.g Redmi series, Samsung A series etc.

3. Budget: These are affordable phones. Price and value for money is a factor here. Examples of phones here can be tricky so I'll dodge this banana skin as some budget phones claim to be midrangers.

4. Entry-level: These phones offer nothing in performance. They are basic phones for those who want to enjoy the feel of a smartphone without doing heavy tasks e.g Tecno Spark series, Redmi go series, Infinix hot series etc.

Tech centurion has an excellent list of phone classification so you'll see where your phone is on their global ratings.
I need your thoughts and corrections if any with appropriate contributions. Thank you.

A budget phone is a phone that is between 50 and 65 on the tech centurion global ratings. It can carry out heavy tasks with a good amount of lag. Usually such phones are around 40k to 60k e.g. Nokia X5, Tecno LA7, Xiaomi MI A2 lite.

An entry level phone is rated below 50 on the tech centurion global scale. In terms of performance, these phones are nothing to write home about. They heat up and lag a lot. They may not even have 4G LTE or OTG enabled. They are usually below 40k.

I hope you are less confused.

Exactly. those people are still making phones with dual or quad core processors in this day and age. The new Tecno Spark 3 and Pouvoir 3 are a disgrace.
