Questions For Advanced Programmers: Please Help by eyanpataki: 1:39pm On Sep 21, 2010
Hello Nairalanders, i really appreciate your endeavors in programming on this forum, i have really learnt alot especially the encouragement i got from experienced programmers here.
I am presently working with java, I know about the basics and the intermediate, what is left for me is the Graphics and database connectivity
These are my questions:
I have written programs( i mean real and tasking programs: shopping cart, zipcode verification, and mostly mathematical solutions using data structures and algortihm etc) but they are all run from commmand prompt or using small IDE like jcreator.
1. I want to write big programs, that looks like the one we download online(install it, run it on keyboard, provide help etc.
2. I need the main concept behind coding large project like notepad, browser etc
3. In java, how can i combine many classes, packages and interfaces for large projects.
In fact, How can I be a software developer?

thanks for your anticipated kind gesture

Try googling "building GUI applications in JAVA/Python/C/C++ etc"
when in it, other things you need to know will surface.

First You have to decide what platform you want develop for, then start gathering resources.
For example, Visual Basic (VB.NET) is the windows software development language.. but you compile, debug and run your code in Visual Studio, there are other softwares for respective platforms.

Visual Basic is a good start if you have a good grasp on JAVA. You can download it at https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs.aspx and go through the free course available at http://www.tutorialspoint.com/vb.net/

Java GUI/desktop applications for Windows can be done using Eclipse http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-java-developers/junor This way you can build powerful softwares with awesome features.

Netbeans as

said. https://netbeans.org/downloads/
Swing (Class) http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/ (Swing implements a set of components for building graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and adding rich graphics functionality and interactivity to Java applications.)

Also see http://cs.lmu.edu/~ray/notes/largejavaapps/

I suggest you stick to JAVA since you already have knowledge of it's syntax and use.

Request for tutorials in my group https://www.nairaland.com/2774190/advanced-programmers-engineers-group#40580136 and i'd post it.
If you want, I can show you how to build your own basic text formatter, like Notepad.

Best Regards,
Daniel Omoniyi.
