The dedicated BRT Lane was designed for the use of buses operating the BRT service.

The dedicated lane was structured into the BRT system to enable speedy transportation of commuters to their destinations.

By law, non-BRT vehicles are strictly prohibited from using the lane.

However, of late, it has become quite confusing as to whether that law is still in enforcement in Lagos state.

This is so because it is now a common sight to see non-BRT vehicles use the dedicated BRT lanes.

The lanes are now used by Okadas, Danfos, personal vehicles, military or police vehicles, etc., to escape traffic bottlenecks.

Interestingly, the once-upon-a-time efficient BRT Lane Monitoring task force appears to have gone missing.

And, curiously, LASTMA officials– who are the primary enforcers of this law – seem to have decided to look the other way.

Violation of this law is particularly noticeable on the Ikorodu-Expressway BRT lane corridor.

Or has the law prohibiting the use of the BRT lanes by non-BRT vehicles been relaxed?

spillover of the elections. Just wait for Sanwo-Olu to be sworn in then the strict enforcement will resume. Then they will relax the enforcement when the elections are near again. Na awa way.

nonchalant attitude by many Nigerians is responsible for this nonsense. They know the right thing but they prefer to be flogged like goat before obeying simple rule. This menace doesn't exonerate the enforcement agency because they are part of the problem. The aforementioned problem is exhibited by them since they are Nigerians too

I can assure you that those who enter that lane do that at their own risk. The taskforce guys are more active than ever and have even employed the services of touts. Once you are caught, first thing they do is take out your plate numbers and drive your car straight to their closest office no discussion whatsoever on the road .
The primary problem remains the terrible traffic situation in Lagos. Solve the traffic problem or reduce it to the barest minimum and no one would even be concerned with the BRT Lane.

Funny enough the BRT scheme which is meant to encourage people to park their cars at home and commute with the BRT has been ineffective, imagine standing on the queue for 2 hours to get a BRT bus for a 1 hour journey which you might still stand all through . Useless!

Lol that's stupid. The city should enforce it. This is an example of an idiot tax. If a police officer gives them a ticket what would they tell court.

An N30k fine will straighten them out. If they refuseto pay they can sit it out in jail.
