Step One: Monitor your cycle for 2-3 months and know how many days they each lasted.

This calculation is most accurate for regular 26-30 days menstrual cycles. So, if yours is shorter or longer i.e. irregular within that 2-3 months of monitoring, I'd advise you read no further.

P.S: A complete menstrual cycle ends in menstruation. So, count your cycle days from the beginning of one menstruation to the beginning of another.

Step Two: Mark the middle of your cycle as the "calculated" ovulation day.

In other words, 13th day for 26 days cycle, 14th day for the 28 days cycle and 15th day for the 30 days cycle.

For the odd numbers of 27 and 29 days cycle, there are two middle days, pick one.

Step Three: Add 2 days in front of the "calculated" ovulation day.

Using a typical 28 days cycle which has the 14th day as the "calculated" ovulation day i.e. if menses began Today, 6th of June, then counting 14 days from today would land on the 19th of June.

Now, add 2 days to that 19th and that would be 20th and 21st of June.

Step Four: Add 2 days behind the "calculated" ovulation day.

Those 2 days from 19th of June would be 17th and 18th of June.

Step Five: Count the days in step 3 and 4 together.

That is, 17th, 18th, 19TH, 20th and 21th. These days are your ovulations dates with 19th as calculated while those two days in front and behind are in case any circumstance causes an early or late ovulation.

Step Six: Count 5 days backwards from our earlier ovulation day in step five.
That would be 17th, 16th, 15th, 14th, and 13th. These 5 days corresponds to how long an ejaculated sperm lasts in a woman's reproductive tract.

Step Seven: Count 3 days ahead, from the latest ovulation day in step five.

That would be 21st, 22nd and 23rd. These days are counted to correspond to how long a woman's egg lasts after been released or ovulated for fertilization.

Step Eight: Count the days in step 6 and 7 all together with the five ovulation days in step 5.

And that would give us 11 days. These eleven days are called FERTILE DAYS i.e. days when the woman is most likely to conceive from any unprotected intercourse.

Step Nine: The remaining days before or after these fertile days are called SAFE DAYS i.e. when the woman is least likely to get pregnant from unprotected intercourse.
