Since you agreed that the midfielder immediately in front of central backs are DMs. Then let me tell you that we have 2 types of deep-lying midfielders (DLM) , one who play as a DM and the other they call a 'regista' in Italian soccer. Regista seldomly has defensive responsibility, example is pirlo, xavi, gerrard etc though they operate in the deep areas too but has not much to do with denfensive worries unlike the other DLM(DM).
