The Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Ebonyi State chapter gathered yesterday, 26th June 2019, at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), to mark their annual zonal meeting.
While receiving the officers, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiubawho was ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Sunday Elom expressed his profound gratitude to the organisation for its pragmatic approach in executing the mandatory industrial training experience for students, making sure that theoretical learning by students who are studying technical related courses in tertiary institutions are augmented with practical experiences.
Professor Elom affirmed that in its drive to attain world class university status, AE-FUNAI has introduced a must pass GST course to see that every student of the institution develop occupational competence that would facilitate their fitting into the world of work, acquire skills to be employable and employers of labour after graduation. This he said will enhance sustainable development in Nigeria using human capacity building thereby making job of SIWES easier. He therefore charged director SIWES AE-FUNAI chapter Dr.A.I Adeolu to liaise with the visiting SIWES leaders and relate back the outcome of their meetings to the university management to ensure compliance of AE-FUNAI students.
The head of industrial training (ITF) Abakaliki Area Office, Mrs Chioma Egube expressed delight for meeting with meet the Vice-Chancellor for the very first time as one her plans is to meet with all heads of higher institutions in Ebonyi state, to create synergy.
She also said that ITF scheme has recorded tremendous success since its inception in Ebonyi state. According to her, ITF has trained over 300 youths of the state in the various areas such as tiling, Wig Making, POP Work, tailoring and so on. She also promised that such training will take place again in September 2019 and that AE-FUNAI has been given opportunity to organise training for unemployed youths of the state in 5 different skills including tailoring, plumbing, carpentry etc. while ITF will provide sponsorship.
