Different opinions have been said about the radiator fan switch. Some say that it is the thermostat in a car, others say that it controls the radiator cooling system.

Please if anyone can throw some light on how the radiator fan switch works, like what it really does, its effect on gas millage and so on.

Your contributions are highly welcomed.

The technical jargon for that switch is being referred to as "Thermoswitch" as seen in Camry 2000.
Depending on the design of the car ,not all car use switch for control of their cooling fan ,tsome fans are are ecu controlled tru a relay while some control the fan tru a dedicated computer module , assume you have mentioned the particular car model under consideration it would have been better for clarity sake.
However ,fan control is not the same with thermostat, they perform different functions and while the former is an electrical device ,the latter is a mechanical .
The essence of fan control is maintain the car at optimum working temperature and take out any excess heat while thermostat enable the car to build up heat and reduce emission for best catalystic converter efficiency during engine start up.
Temperature is very paramount for the working condition of a vehicle which is the reason for that words "optimum " cos anything outside the optimum range wether below or high will spell doom for the engine and cause excessive high fuel consumption .
If you need to read more on how fan affect fuel consumption ,u can look up on this thread
