US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that a US warship destroyed an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions between the two countries.

Mr Trump said the USS Boxer took defensive action after the drone closed to within 1,000 yards of the warship and ignored multiple calls to stand down.


The President called it the latest "hostile" action by Iran and urged other countries to condemn what he says are Iran's attempts to disrupt the freedom of navigation and global commerce in the strategic waterway in the Persian Gulf region.

He said the drone threatened the safety of the American ship and its crew.

Iran recently shot down a US drone that it said was flying over Iran.


Trump called off a planned retaliatory airstrike at the last minute, citing the number of potential casualties.

What even annoys me the most is that alot of ignorant folks on nairaland who knows nothing about international politics likes to lick his ass, pulling out of the signed nuclear agreement was one of the most stupid decisions of the Trump presidency, even if their where certain areas he was not comfortable with all he could have done was to re-negotiate the deal instead of pulling out totally.A war between the US and Iran will be costly and unpredictable.

All this tensions is because Trump suddenly pulled out of the nuclear deal. Inasmuch as I like him, there are times you ought to back down

I just pray the drone was unmanned..so there won't a gulf crisis to make innocent people suffer.

Are you saying Iran did not abide by it? That means IAEA had been lying? And why is Trump and Netanyahu keep saying they won't allow Iran to get nuclear weapons? why do you keep hurting their economy when you know they dont have one. Isn't it funny.

Netanyahu addressed the UN last year and said Israel had intelligence that Iran was enriching uranium at a secret facility in Iran which IAEA questioned. The same Netanyahu said last month that Israel won't allow Iran to build nuclear weapons can't you see their words are incoherent. That should tell you Iran does not have nukes. Everything Netanyahu has been doing is to see Iran completely destroyed with or without nuclear weapons, Iran do threaten Israel with destruction though.

You don't have to compare Iran with North Korea because Iran abided by the deal.

Obama didn't give Iran money to stick to any deal, he returned IRAN'S money seized when they bought some US military hardwares in the 80's or 70's, They made purchase but nothing was delivered due to heavy sanctions imposed on the Islamic republic, US couldn't use the money all this while, so what Obama did was to return the money with interest back to Iran.

Secondly, you asked someone If he has ever read the nuclear agreement, but with what you just typed I can bet you don't even know shii about the nuclear deal.

The agreement clearly states that if sanctions are being placed on Iran, then they have every right to exist the deal. Trump existed the deal last year and placed sanctions on Iran, it's quite funny how you expect US to pull out of a deal, impose sanctions and expect Iran to keep to their part of the bargain while struggling to sell their products. The only reason Iran signed any deal was because of sanctions!

Existing the nuclear deal isn't a smart move, US allies aren't even buying into any propaganda anymore, if the sanctions continue, they will continue with their uranium enrichment, and there is nothing you or anyone can do, you dare not bomb Iran facilities.

Iran has just denied that any of their drone was shot down by US navy, they even released a video of the drone monitoring USS Boxer ship before and after the vessel sailed through the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile Iran just seized a UK bound ship in the strait of Hormuz some hours back in response to UK's seizure of their ship last week. All this wouldn't have happened if the deal was still in tact.
