2019 AFCON Final Match Referees Get Heroes Welcome In Cameroun


Cameroonian referee Sidi Neant Alioum Alioum and his two assistants Evarist Menkouande and Elvis Nguengoue received a resounding welcome after officiating in the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The trio arrived in Yaoundé on Sunday as fans stood on the streets to cheer and welcome them.



Even though the national team failed to go beyond the round of 16, the referees lifted the Cameroon flag very high by taking control of the final game between Senegal and Algeria last Friday.

Alioum and his two assistant referees were the first Cameroonian officials to handle a final match in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations.


Cameroon Football Federation president Seidou Mbombo Njoya also welcomed the officiating officials.

The winners, Algeria’s Carthage Eagles and runners up, Teranga Lions of Senegal both got big welcomes from their home fans.

Algeria has won the Afcon for the second time after 1990, while Senegal has not won after reaching the finals twice.

Lolz Africa abeg what is our problem just because someone officiate final match now he has become heroes now you know put him in a car and drive him around for people that did not even watch the tournament at all can't you see the way people are looking at him and secondly who recongnize him in his local government not even in the whole state

Why are we making fun of them? If Super eagles won the AFCON, I know we would've given them something very similar. Nigerians are even worse in doing this kind of parade. Is it not in this Nigeria that Personal Assistant to an LGA councillor received accolades?


We are jealous because no Nigerian Referee made the list of officials in the just concluded AFCON 2019.
