A total of 4,529,153 movements were recorded across all Nigerian borders in 2018, this is a 22% increase compared to the 3,715,268 recorded in 2017. 2,206,568 (49%) of those trips were arrival trips, while 2,322,585 (51%) of them were departures.
The report also highlighted that a total of 209 irregular migrants were intercepted, 34 suspected smugglers were arrested and a total of 453 human trafficking and child labor victims rescued.
A total of 1,011,158 Nigerians applied for international passports across different parts of the country in 2018.
In terms of geopolitical zones, the South West dominated the passport application figures with a total of 474,265 applicants. North Central, with a total of 175,586 passport applicants emerged the zone with the second number of applicants followed by South-South, South East, North West, and North East with 144840, 102563, 102354 and 27762 respectively.
